Text from Pages 1 - 128 of the 1951 volume:

We proudly present this, THE EMPYREAN for 1951. As a conductor blends together different notes, different instruments, different tempos, and different moods, moving from the softest pianissimo to the loudest crescendo, so we have tried to blend the different parts of our school life. Critics will, undoubtedly, find some sour notes; but, if this book strikes the chords of our hearts by recalling for us any of the moments which we wish to remember, it will have served its purpose. Editor TOM F. FARMER Business Managers PAT YANCEY THYRZA WHITE Faculty Advisers MISS LOUISE RUMBLE O. P. EVANS Copyright: 1951 We, the Class of Nineteen-Hundred Fifty-One, do proudly dedicate this, the fifth publication of THE EM- PYREAN, to Mr. Henry Bradley Kitchens in deep appre- ciation of the advice, understanding, and inspiration he has given us. His success in being both teacher and friend, his willingness to work with and for us have endeared him to our hearts. W. H. DRAKE ............................... Superintendent O. P. LA GRANGE GAME The Newnan High School Football Season for 1950 was one of the best in the history of the school. In an eight game schedule, the Tigers suffered only two defeats and were not scored upon by any other opponent. Certainly, a large part of the success of the season can be attributed to the victory over La- Grange in the opening game. For twenty-three years, the Tigers had failed to emerge victorious in a single encounter with the Grangers, but this year there was marked determination on the part of the entire squad to reap vengeance for this long string of defeats. Perhaps the faithful followers of the team did not sense victory in the air, but the team had no Senior other thought in mind. It could be sensed in the tense quiet of the dressing room and was plainly visible as the boys came out on the field and went through their warm-up exercises. Truly, here was a trim, well-conditioned lot ready for action which would bring about a change in this so long one-sided affair. The Tigers took over at the opening kick-off and never was there a let up as they gradually edged ahead until at the end of the game, the score stood Newnan 18, La- Grange 0. Let us hope this victory has set a new prece- dent for all future Tiger Teams which will carry them into other encounters with the Grangers on a more even basis and with greater confidence.
