Early Spring With joyous beauty, gladsome mirth God breathed new life into the earth:-- A valiant banner raised, unfurled, A harp of gold had touched the world! Hard by hills in royal blue Serene, yet changing to the view. Sparkling streamlets smirked with pride And praised the sun for swelling tide. Mellows glints of Spring arrived With tints and patterns, too shortlivedz-- The fragile fern, the trailing vine Cried out for Life, with voice divine. A tragic saga was foretold By foggy moon and frosty cold: The flow'ring crocus raised his head For wink of March to smite it dead. F leeing Winter stalked its prey And left it bleeding, where it lay.
