The Class of 1957 To the Graduating Class: You have just complexed twelve years of your formal education. This is really only the beginning of the long learning process. Some of you will continue your formal education in higher institutions of learning, but many will terminate this form of education and begin a new form, namely, the education that one receives from everyday living or in some particular vocation. One hundred years ago, when mastery of the rudiments of the three R's was sufficient, the necessray school- ing would be obtained in a few years. Now many years of school attendance are necessary. To meet these changing demands of civilization, all of you should make a definite effort to continue your education. Early Spring With joyous beauty, gladsome mirth God breathed new life into the earth:-- A valiant banner raised, unfurled, A harp of gold had touched the world! Hard by hills in royal blue Serene, yet changing to the view. Sparkling streamlets smirked with pride And praised the sun for swelling tide. Mellows glints of Spring arrived With tints and patterns, too shortlivedz-- The fragile fern, the trailing vine Cried out for Life, with voice divine. A tragic saga was foretold By foggy moon and frosty cold: The flow'ring crocus raised his head For wink of March to smite it dead. F leeing Winter stalked its prey And left it bleeding, where it lay.
