'-'I I, 'r.-Trhigkku gg R 1 JI History of the ICQ26 1927 Basket Ball Team Immedrately after the close of the footb ull season ever y athlete rn N T H S was out to make the basketball team Although eyerv mm who play ed on the team the preyrous vear was back to share honors as one of the first five thrs d1d not lower rn the least the ambrtrons of the other members of the squad Our first game was wrth our semr rrvals Oakland four rrvals as you know are Tuscolal and we were bent upon takrng them down from their perch as we had done IH football In thlg game we yery elaborately inaugurated the basketball season by defeating our opponents 30 to 12 Up to January the 8th we had made fine progress as yet not losrng a game and havrng won three but on this date we were defeated by Tuscola Although thrs was qurte a blow to the team every plaver held a strff upper hp and summoned fight from some unknown source This fight staved wrth the team throughout the remarnder of the season and rndeed rt was not absent when we played Tuscola here on January 21st The final score of thrs game yvas 24 to 14 rn fay or of Newman and rf ever a hard bunch of losers were seen to leave a basketball court they were seen to le ive the floor here on that nrght Thrs game was rough and tumble throughout but the snarlrng fightrng Tuscolrans smelt defeat at the hands of therr superrors As for the game whrch was played the followrng nrght I shall offer no explanatlons or excuses as there are none to be found We w ere rust ICQ cold 'und the explrnatlon for thrs cannot be solved erther by psy chologrsts or co rches It mrght be sard here that the name Red Skrns was rpplred to us by varrous sport yy rrters becruse of our dauhng red outfits After thc Bement frame the following term yy as applred to us rn a none too complr mentary way Another Red Skrn brt the dust ' The name Red Skrn folloyyed us throughout the remainder of the season I mentron the fact that we were called Red Skins because rt rs by that name that we shall be remembered and It rs that name whrch every Newman team after us shall rnherrt Well' How dld the b zsketball season ome out anyhow Who won the Okaw Vxlley ' In short Newman won the Okaw' This rs 1 lon long story as to how New man finally ended at the head of the lrst of Okaw teams but anyhow that w rs the way rt ended We yyere presented wrth a full sued srlyer basketball as our trophy for wrnnmg the conference champronshlp There are rlso other records whrch thrs team of 1926 and 27 has marntarned and established 15 . .
