HE Newman Townshlp Hlgh School Dlstrlct was orgamzed ln 1909 and was the first ln thls sectlon of the state to be so organlzed under the law enacted by the State Leglslature ln 1907 After the or anlzatlon the proposltlon to bulld the bond ISSUE the selectlon of a Slte the accept ance of plans and the lettlng of the contract followed 1n order The archl tect was H P McCoy of Danvllle Ill1no1s and James P Morehead of Tuscola Ill1no1s was the contractor The bulldlng as shown above was completed ln time for the openlng of school September 1 1913 The grounds were donated by Mr and Mrs A E Havens and the Board of Education durlng the constructlon of the bulldlng was composed of Dr C Rutherford presldent Dr R C Glllogly Secretary Scott Bur gett Charles McCown and J B St John SIDCG ltS organlzatlon some 600 boys and glrls have entered ltS doors as Freshmen and about 400 of these have gone out as graduates The faculty has mcreased from four to elght members the enrollment from 75 to 125 students and the course of study from 16 to 27 unlts of work H p '21 S -hr c -Il 1 x a . . . . . , S.. . , . , .
