This is the picture of today's high schools if one believes all he reads in many books, magazines, and newspapers. Our special students are dedicated to the task at hand-that of securing the best possible education-and are also enjoying ourselves at the same time in extra- curricular activities and in the classrooms. Included in our education are the essentials of readin', 'ritin', and 'rithmetic, along with higher mathematics and sciences for which our nation's leaders are asking so often and vigorously. Our Jacks and Jills t are not dull since much time is also spent in developing our personalities through contact with fellow students and teachers and by studying the civilization, experiences, problems, and ideals of lothers. Proving the excellence of the program are the numer- ous honors and contests won by our students. We have been champions in University interscholastic League lit- erary events, football, and tennis and in publications contests. Our vocational program has not been over- looked, either, as the Vocational Industrial Club and the Future Farmers of America chapters have won a bumper crop of competitions. Two students earned semi-finalist berths in the National Merit Scholarship program this year. Many ex-Mustangs have earned top scholastic honors from colleges through- out the state and nation. Consequently, the 1959 Yucca Gloriosa is a salute to and a picture of these extra-special students who have made 1958-1959 an especially good year at Sweetwater High. And their 1958-59 record
