Many changes and sacrifices were necessary in order to have a wartime annual. You, as students of Newman High School, have shown a most cooperative spirit in accepting gladly these restrictions. Some members of the staff have already gone into the armed forces. Our best wishes go to all former students and teachers of our school who are now serving our country. With the hope that this book will become a cherished memory of your high school days, we present to you the 1944 Yucca Gloriosa. Time really flies, espec- ially when we are busy at something that we are interested in and like to do. I have never been more interested in the welfare of Newman High than I am now, and I have never had a busier time trying to keep the Sweetwater Schools organ- ized and functioning properly. Regardless of how much the war is affecting us and our school now, I feel that it will be much worse a year from now. the fine cooperation to maintain the high standards of our splendid High School in these trying times. I hope that you will continue to give that essentially necessary cooperation so that the Banner of Newman High may continue to float as high in the future as it has in the past. I want to thank each of you for that you have given in our attempt May success and happiness continue to be yours. ' Your friend, KA The Power ' behind the throne is the Sweetwater School Board comprised of these citizens unselfishly devoting their time and ef fort for the welfare of our HQ?-ff Ross S. Covey, Supt. The Parent-Teacher Associa- tion of Newman High School has provided a beneficial study program for parents and teach- ers, sponsored the successful Hplay night programn for students, and assisted in all worthwhile activities related to home and school. You have fulfilled this year an important role in making worthwile contributions to the School-at-War, War Re- lief, Red Cross, and other programs and activities. May each of you continue with your individual efforts to hasten the conclusion of this terrible strife and con- flict--war, a most destructive thing. I wish to express appreciation to the students and teachers for their contributions in helping to make this a successful school year. To the Yucca Gloriosa Staff I extend congratulations for your editing another splendid annual, even though you have had to labor under many adversities. and their sponsor, Best regards to all of you and may yours be a successful and happy life.
