January 2h, 19h9. Mr. Toby Wright, Newkirk City Schools, N ewk irk, Oklahoma. Dear Mr. Wright: Your letter of January 19, together with the pictures of the girls, have been received. I also received a letter and telephone call from Mr. Gilliete. As I explained over the telephone, it is very unfair to try and pick a winner from a photograph. For one reason, the photographs are not uniform. Second, they are mostly a head size close up and in no way show the girl’s figure, stance or poise, so all we really have to go on is a very small photo. However, I have done the very best I could, and I trust it will be to everyone’s satisfaction. I have picked the girls in this order: No. 1 - Joanne Michael No. 2 - Betty Jean Grose No. 3 - Ann Leighty I will write Miss Michael a note of congratulations as per your request. I trust everything will be satisfactory to you and the student body. With very best wishes and kindest regards, I am ga mf Gene Autry
