The twirl-ers are a good example of school spirit as they add pep to the games. Captain Maria Wei and co-captain Kathy Arnest advise the cheery girls to keep smiling as they introduce new twirls and routines, as well as perform old ones. Their year of twirling ends with a banquet and award ceremony. Maria Wei Marching Band Moves Eyeballs Meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15 to 3:45, the Marching Band drills to the commands of Mr. John Mills and the whistle of Carrie Friedman. Members display their musician-ship and marching formation during all of the home football games. On the memorable Saturday of October 27,1973, the band acknowledged Halloween with a bewitching song and a pumpkin with moving eyeballs. Well, on to bigger and better things. Left, right, left, right, left . 133 Council Solves Problems Every Tuesday, a group of students representing all four high school classes meet, during school, (one reason the attendance is so good!), to discuss school problems and try to solve them. Thus, the Executive Council acts as the middle-man between the students and the administration. Society Gets Involved The National Honor Society's main goal this year has been to involve itself in projects aimed at helping other people. On Halloween night ghostly creatures from the Society took children from the Regional Center trick-or-treating. They organized a schoolwide Thanksgiving Day Project in November that enabled several needy Newington families to eat a wholesome turkey dinner. The December project was a first in the National Honor Society; many of its members travelled through Newington singing Christmas carols and spreading Christmas cheer. In the spring, their annual basketball game was held. The money raised was for several savings bonds to be awarded in June to worthy club members. And mourned at each defeat, Walked and talked and sfiared every 7:45 to 2:15, Tried and succeeded and sometimes failed Yet we didn't spend four years As you and I But as Us! We are 74, And we w ill never hapt Quitethe same agai And now we must But I will never forget you; For you have become An inseparable part of me, And I of you. And so we are forever one. This is not good-bye: It is simply Thank You” And a wish that what we have enjoyed here In the company of one another May be enjoyed by those who follow. — S.
