SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL: PHILIP SKEPS B. S. Fredonia State Teachers' College M. S. in Education Saint Bonaventure University, Allegheny, New York Uur Sacred Duty lf democracy is to survive, it is the task of men of thought, as well as men of action, to put aside pride and prejudice, and with courage and single-minded devotion--- and above all with humility--to find the truth and teach the truth that shall keep men free. With these words Franklin Delano Roosevelt placed upon the shoulders of all Americans, a sacred duty to see that the children of today may find, cherish and preserve this truth so precious to man. Must our schools carry the burden of this task alone? Of course not, the responsibility is a ioint one to be shared equally by Family, Church, School and Community. Every- one, old and young alike, must shoulder a portion of this responsibility to find the truth and teach the truth that shall keep men free. We must cooperatively use our talents to nurse the spark placed in the heart and mind of all men by our Creator, until it becomes the bright flame Eeded to guide us and others of the world to the full life of free men. We fail in this task unless we point out that the path is steep and stony. Freedom, although a right must be earned by each individual and shared with all men. Free- dom demands our wisdom, courage, strength and sacrifice. lt requires the unselfish, dedicated effort of all. Can we keep freedom alive in these days of struggle for men's minds? We can, we will, we must, for life with- out freedom, is nothing. As did the fathers of our Country, must pledge our lives and fortunes to this task. 1 , l Q I 'x 1, ,V A . ,sr MILDRED R. We pause to review that part of our lite story which has passed within these walls. How vividly that first year with our'first teacher, Mrs. Brown remains in our minds. 7 The tact that, as elementary students, we were divided into two groups, did not prevent us from pre- senting a solid front to the world, and being strongly class conscious. Soon we had gone through those happy years in Miss Laughlin's room, Miss Savercool 's room, and all too soon arrived at Junior High School to begin sports and many other activities. With high school, came much hard work in preparing for college and iobs, and our much desired senior trip. Such things as our circus, dances, carnival, plays, and skating parties all helped us to attain this goal. However, we could never have had so much success and good times with out the aid of our 9-l2 advisors, Miss Mary Humpton, and Mr. George Howe. All too soon arrived the fall of our Senior year with thirty of us registered. We are proud that two of us won scholarships, and that many of us are planning to enter college careers and other occupational fields. lt has been a pleasant journey and to those who will Follow us ---- bon voyage.
