Article IV—We bequeath to the sophomore class our wonderful spirit, and our ability to have fun and get along with each other. Article V—We bequeath to the junior class the power to remain out late at night and sleep in class, as long as such conduct is permitted by the instructor. Hold your head up high. And don’t be afraid of the dark, At the end of the storm is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark. Walk on through the wind, Walk on through the rain, Though your dreams be tossed and blown, Walk on! Walk on! With hope in your heart. And you’ll never walk alone, You’ll never walk alone! CLASS FLOWER White Rose CLASS ADVISORS Mrs. Swigert, Mr. Riffle, Mrs. Phillips CLASS COLORS Royal Blue and White Class Prophecy DATE_______________________________________________________________________________May 26, 1969 PLACE______________________________________________________________________ New York City OCCASION ....... Reunion of the Class of 1959 REPORTER ....................................................A1 Umni, who is one inch tall “Hello, folks. My name’s A1 — A1 Umni, that is. I’m here to point out and to give you an on the spot coverage of the first reunion of the Class of 1959. What’s that?! Must be Flash, my secret reporter. What’d you say, Flash?” “Da, I see a big bird.” “Flash, that’s not a bird, it’s a plane. I’d better whiz down to the airport. See you again at the count of three. One ... Two . .. Three . .. Here I am at the airport to meet the “dare to be different” Class of ’59. Boy, have they really dared to be different this time by holding their reunion in New York City. The plane is getting ready to land. They are all out of the plane now and are going to their specially designed taxi cabs. I’ll jump on this pocketbook (golly, it’s big enough) and see what happens. Sure wish I could see. It’s awfully dark down here on the floor. Hey, they’re stopping. W'oweeee! Look at that hotel! Can you imagine renting the whole brand new Explornik Hotel for the class. The management had the hotel decorated in royal blue and white, their class colors, just for this occasion. I think we better let them rest up after their trip. We’ll be right here at 6:00 P.M. when they start their festivities which begins at the close of the U. N. Building and ends when the U. N. Building opens. Six O’clock. ’Bout time for them to be going to the U. N. What a class! Reserving the U. N. Building for their class reunion. They’re really keeping in step with their dedication. Here they come! I’d better get on something before I’m trampled. Hey! W'hat’s coming off here? Am I seeing things or is everyone dressed in royal blue and white? By George, they are! The Mayor of New York City! What’s he doing here? I’ll be a . . . (CENSORED). He’s saying something to the class. Let’s see what he’s saying.” “On behalf of the great City of New York, I present these white rose corsages and boutonnieres to you, the Class of ’59, for your achievement towards a permanent and universal brotherhood of nations. I also would like to present this trophy for your achievement. Why not put it in the trophy case of Newcomerstown High School, your Alma Mater? I know your time is rushed so I have a police escort to take you to the U. N.” Golly, neds! A police escort yet. I’ll bet this is the first time they’ve ever had a police escort like this! (It’s usually to the police station.) Wow! Look at all the people in front of the U. N. They’re all dressed in different outfits. Oh no, they’ve even decorated the Secretariat Building in royal blue and white with white rose bouquets all over the place. I can’t stand much more of this. I have a weak heart. The guides — oh no, men (they are usually women I — are taking the class in the exit ? door. Does this class have to do everything different? The guides are dividing the class into four groups and taking them on a tour of the building. We won’t go along on the tour, but we’ll meet them near the staircase ramp which is in the lobby of the General Assembly Building. W'hew! I'm tired. I’ll catch a snooze while they’re on their tour. ZZZZZZZZZZ Hey! What’s that? I hear noises. Oh, my goodness. I must’ve overslept. Who do they think they are? Only big shots go up that staircase ramp. Oh well, this is their day. Now the big moment has arrived. The midnight banquet! The Honorable Buddy Best, president of the class, now Probate Judge of Coshocton County, specializing in traffic violations, is introducing Evangelist Kenny Haas who will give grace. They are now singing their class song, “You’ll Never Walk Alone. As I look around. I see their senior advisors, Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Swigert, and Mr. Riffle; principal, Mr. Gary, and superintendent, Mr. Roeder. This is really different. People representing some of the countries, dressed in their native costumes, are serving them. The class officers asked that the meal consist of foreign foods, which is a way of showing their feelings toward world friendship. All the food has been flown here from the W W Supermarket which is run by Terry Wise and Richard W'atson. I’ll bet finding out what everyone’s been doing for the last ten years won’t be dull. You know this class can’t do anything dull. (Whiz.......) There goes Pete Doss, the world’s No. 1 playboy, renewing old memories of the Senior Class play party by chasing Linda Sue Erskine, who is now a sophisticated Scotch housewife. I’ll get on this water glass and listen and watch. t m I The president finally got Pete to sit down so the proceedings could continue. There are the girls who are in the nursing profession. Bettie Kaye Bordenkircher, Judy Beitcr, Marian Gaskill, Becky Carpenter, Marilyn Meeks, and Nancy McCulley have dedicated their lives to easing pain and suffering throughout the world. Hot-rod specialist Larry Marlatt is telling pharmacist Bob Robinson about his new car. To better educate the children of the world, Lynda McCants, Kaye Russell, Helen Jane Norman. Ruth Ann Favors, and Peggy Marstrell have become teachers. Marshall Fisher, editor of the Pathetic Peoli Press, is interviewing Captain Jim Ryan of the State Patrol about his recent heroic exploit of capturing the “talent thief,” Bonnie Crater, who stole a talent from the Nukeesburg Night Club singer, Mary Ann Mullen. Bonnie’s only statement to her lawyer, Sandy Miller, was “I only did it for laughs, Ha, Ha.” Officers of the U. S. Navy, Sonny Anderson, Jim Creachbaum, and Bob Craigo, have been granted special leave for this reunion. They are the co-captains of the U.S.S. Newcosean. Ralph Smith, who was named Farmer of the Year, credits his success to Jim Saylor and Sanford Steed, owners of the Sayeed Feed Company. Athletes Tom “Foul-shot” Atkinson and Larry “Goal-punter” Stocker have completed plans with architect Jerry Norman for the building of a sports center for underprivileged children. Larry Loader and Ronnie Casterline, mattress testers for the Sleep-Rite Mattress Co., demonstrate 0 this product in department store windows throughout the country. Super-salesman Steve Myers, employed by the Diane Palmer Import Co., has recently acquired th services of 50 secretaries including Linda Kissel, Judy Marshall, Janet Davis, Carolyn Duff and Carolyn Dulaney. Barbara Somogye, who bakes only cherry pies for her bakery, is keeping comptometer Sandy Sauerbrcy and Alice Hazlett working overtime tabulating the number of cherries used daily. Jo Ann Walker from New York and Rosemary Warner from San Francisco are busily talking about the hairstyles of the East and West coasts. Everyone’s getting quiet, very unusual for this class. Must be going to have some entertainment. Disc jockey Mickey Mayhew is now playing a Rock ’n’ Roll Cha-Cha for Delphine Newby and her partner. Incidentally, Delphine’s partner is the only outside guest for the reunion. John Davis, manager of the Spiffy Sports Sgoods is plugging the latest in sports equipment — the great, the colossal, the magnificent, the never-miss uninflated basketball to coaches Gary “Hick” Hickman and Garry “Ed” Marlatt. I hear that telephone operators Pauline Bowers and Brenda Hootman keep the lines busy talking about Dan McMullen who has won a prize for the best portrait of Fifth Avenue model, Mary Lou Riley. Larry McElhaney, head pilot of the Mac Airlines, is telling musicians Larry Carney and Dean Geese about the excellent job carpenter Leonard Hart is doing on his house. Mrs. Judy Widder is telling Mrs. Judy Fairchild, Mother of the Year, about her new addition. Housewives Carol Wilson and Bonnie Taylor are also joining in this conversation. Bet they’ll be exchanging recipes. Multi-millionaire Terry Silverthornc spends most of his spare time hunting. Wonder what for? Pid Duhamel, owner of the Oihos Service Station is explaining to anthropologist Lester Vogt how good business is since all the seniors of NHS have cars. Dixie Evans, who is now' a missionary in Russia, and Carole Roan, an airline hostess, are telling of the terrible conditions in Russia. There are sputniks and pupniks everywhere. No people, just satellites. Janet Baker, who is employed in the telephone office of Saksnew Department Store on Fourth Avenue, reports that there is an awful lot of sales coming from the counter where Carolyn Dansby, another NHS girl, works. 1 would’t want to tell you what department it is. It’s... er . . . rather embarrassing. It’s the ... oh well, you know . . . that kind of department. (Splash!) Help, I’m drowning. Hope I can reach the rim of this glass. Whew! That was a close one. That last one sort of caught me off guard. Better wrap myself in something else. I’ll catch a . . . achoo . . . cold . . . achoo! Here’s a napkin, and a clean one at that. It ought to keep me warm. The class president has just asked the class to sing their Alma Mater. As we hear their voices in the background may we ever remember their dedication to you, the world. May this Class of 1959 remain as different, as sweet, as loyal and as patriotic as in this year of 1969. As they go marching out let us join with them in singing their Alma Mater and wish God’s blessings to be upon them and keep them safe until their next meeting in 1979. And now this is your on the spot reporter, A1 Umni, saying goodnight wherever you are.” Through the halls of our dear high school . . . v.HI JUNIORS Alba ugh, Bob Baker, Janice Basehart, Harry T Bates, Walter Berg, Kareen Berkshire, Dan Bonnell, Marilyn Brandon, Laura Brenneman, Kenny Bricker, Gail Brode, Barbara Brown, Dave Brown, Hallie Sue Casey, Barbara Clark, Nancy Couts, Linda Creachbaum, Sylvia Crouch, Linda Davis, Ruby Dayton, Priscilla Dorsey, Karolyn Dorsey, Martha Jean Duff, Evelyn Durben, Gary Edwards, Gene Egler, Bob Evans, Jerry Everhart, Jim Fouch, Alyce Fouch, Sharon Gadd, Mary Glazer, Karen Gray, Mary Jane Greathouse, Dave Guthrie, Betty Harris, Ruth Haver, Dorothy Hayes, Dixie Heston, Clifford Heston, Reba Hinds, Curt Hogue, Bill Hudson, Marianne Huffman, Tom Hurst, Karen Johns, Bob Johnson, Gary Jones, Sidney Jordon, Patsy Kedigh, Roger Knutsen, Clyde Lacey, Betty Lyon, Janet MacQueen, Douglas McCormick, Floyd McCormick, Earl McCune, Dick Marquand, Pearl Martin, Joe Mathews, Gary PHOTO Not Available Mayhew, Roy Meek, Chet Miller, Larry Milligan.
