Lowry, President State Board of Education Colum'bus, Ohio Dear Mr. Lowry, We CMolly Beaver and Bobbie Ann Orttj thought you might be inter- ested in knowing fof the events of the past few days which brought 'tlo an end the first decade after the graduation of the Class of '51. The first event was the dedication of the new high school building in memoriam to Bob McPherson and Ernie Loveless, who passeed away during their high school career. While there, we saw Faye Quillen and Joan and Dick McDonnell. Faye is to teach shorthand, and Dick is to teach agriculture in the new school. Joan is a teacher in the elementary grades. Several of -our old classmates stayed at the huge, new, ultra-modern N. H. S. Hotel owned by Bill Regula and Charles Connor. The hotel was beau- tifully furnished and decorated by Dick Mathias, the world-famous interior decorator. Some of the rooms were occupied by Jean Wise, private secretary to Gary McClary, vice-president of Heller Bros., Jim Herbert, general manager of Clowsg Gloria Triplet, world's fastest typist, Louise Hughes, expert on office machines, and Jane Addy, who runs a secretarial placement bureau. Some of the gfirls who have received excellent jobs through this agency are Margie Hursey, Evelyn Cramletrt, zrglx Marjorie Paulun. We found a few of our bld friends employed at the hotel. Mary Dansby was the elevator operator, Twila Gallagher, the telephone operator, Beverly Tedrick, the hotel beautician, Dick Campbell, the desk clerk, and Barbara Angle, the public stenographer. Next to the hotel was one of the largest stores in the Rice's Remedies, lnc. drug shore chain owned by Bob Bice. It was managed by Bonnie Beinhart, and the books were kept by Kitten Taylor, who is soon to be promoted to head accountant for the corporation. Dick Casteel, mechanic at the Sonny Service Station owned by Sonny Van Sickle, told us about the newest addition to the Burger Browny Autornic- cobile chain owned by Bob Burger. He said that Bob 'has hired Jack Baker and Marvin Stocker as head mechanics in the new garage. Back in the hotel we were glad to see Jim Taylor, head football coach at Ohio State Un-iversity, Harry Meek and Pete Hewitt, head basketball coaches at Notre Dame and Ohio State, respectively. Jim and Harry flew down with Mike Lenzo, who was an ace pilot during the last war and now owns his own air lines. He told us he employed Mike Morris as his aviation engineer, Betty THIRTY ONE Cordrey as one of the stewardesses, and Shirley Bond as his private secretary. Just then Doris Emler walked in with Sally Asher, her secretary, and 'Charles Clough, her foreman. Doris has been very successful as the owner of the Murphy Hollow Construcltion Company. Behind Doris came Nick Collins, famous 'brain specialist, and his nurses Leanna Clutter and Vonnie Bethel. Fritz Schlupp came in a little later. As you probably know, he owns the 1,000 acre Bar Trojan Ranch in New Mexico. Gene Baker, owner of the Guernsey Trucking Co., and his head mechanic, Arlie Wiandt, brought with tthem Bernard Booth, who owns the Booth Builders, Inc., and Charles Groff, construction engineer with the cor- poration. We saw all the old gang except Duane Sanders and Richard Schworm who are forest rangers in Montana. Because 'of the dry weather they were unable to attend, but sent their regrets. That evening a banquet was held in the beautiful dining room of the hotel. The excellent meal was planned by Barbara Plants, well-known dietician. Cliff Wilson, president of our class, gave the opening remarks. CHe and 'Dick Robinson, tby the way, are starred as daredevil stunt drivers with the Great Scott Circus, owned and operated by Ed Scott. All three made the trip from San Francisco, California, where the circus is booked for a full yearls st'and.j Mary Hootman, vvorld-famous evangelist, gave the invocation. The entertainment program, which was planned by Mrs. Darrel Riggs, consisted of vocal solos by Barbara Whyde, who has just been voted the most popula-r singer on television, and Tom Gainor, who has just finished a three- year run on Broadway in the musical comedy 'fStardust , clarinet solo, The Trojan Rag , by Sarah .lean Swigertl, who is well known as a musician, and the play Paul Splits the Atom by the original cast. Nov. 1 Football Managers Tro 'ans End Season With Five Loss J , TROJ ANS TIE OPENER 6-6 A green Trojan team picked up valuable experience when they battled West Lafayette to a 6-6 tie in their opening game. The Tro- jans didnlt score until time was running out in the last quarter. They marched from mid- field to the goal line and then Jim Mullen carried the ball the final yard on a fourth down play. TROJANS LOSE TO LOUDONVILLE 25-0 The Trojans led in every department but the score as Bo. Bo. Trimmer's Loudonville team gave the home team its first defeat of the season, 25-O. The Trojans got two fat scoring chances in the first period but lost them on fumbles. They also kept hammering toward pay territory in the second quarter as Jim Mullen ran a punt from his own 38 to the Loudonville 39 yard line. After a series of plays they lost the ball on downs on the visitors' 10-yard line. The Trojans unleashed some unsuspectwed power as they drove the Tigers to their own lair. The first half ended 6-0 in favor of the Tigers. But the second half was horror for the Trojans as their defense curmtbled. The only big drive for the Trojans came in the first quarter when Gary Jurin, Don Litmtle, and Dick Roe were the stars on the ground. Jim Mullen passed twice to Bob Titus to help the drive. A fumble on the 14-yard line stopped the Trojan's threat. The second half Uhrichs- vile stiarted to drive and couldn't be stopped. The score ended 31-O. TROJANS WIN OVER OHIO DEAF 20-6 The Trojans notched their first 1950 victory, defeating Ohio Deaf 20-6. On. the land and in the air, Newcomerstown exhibited power that told the story. In the second quarter, the Trojans marched 76 yards fora touchdown. Mulleiis' pass to Jurin, marked up the score. In the last quarter the Trojans rallied in the final session to score two quick touchdowns. Don Little hit the line for a touchdown and Gary Jurin kicked the extra point. Dick Roe made the last T.D. of the day by: crashing off tackle. Again Jurin kicked the extra point. Then the Trojans coasted to a victory. TROJ ANS TOP ROSCOE 25-12 Trojans came from behind in the second half to defeat Roscoe 25-12. Harris scored first on a pass from Yanai and Dick Roe got away for the second T.D. Gary Jurin scored the third touchdown on an end run and also kicked the extra point. Jurin scored again in the last, quarter crashing off tackle to make the score 25-12 and end the game. NEWCOMERSTOWN KNOCKS OVER BYESVILLE 39-20 Scoring four touchdowns in the first quar- ter, Newcomerstown Trojans coasted to a 39-20 victory over the Byesville Falcons in the annual homecoming game. On the first play Jurin scored around right-end, running 741 yards. Following a Byesville fumble the Trojans scored again in three plays, Little making the T.D. and .lurin kicking the extra point. Shortly afterwards, Titus intercepted a pass and scored the third T.D. for the Tro- jans. Jurin scored two more and Roe one to end the game 39-20. NCT BOWS TO CARROLLTON 42-20 The Newcomerstown Trojans came from behind in the second quarter on two touchdown dashes by Gary Iurin. One around lefti-end and the other off left tackle. The score at half time was 14--13, Carrollton ahead. In the second half the Trojans fell apart and suffered its third defeat of the season, 4-2-20. The Trojans watched Cadiz score 26 points in the first half, then their defense stiffened and the Cardinals git only six points in the Lnird period and tvvo on a safety in the final TROJ ANS END SEASON WITH 32-20 DEFEAT The coldest night of the fooftlball season produced a free-scoring grid contest with the Dennison Railroaders. Coach Bill Durtschi's gridders were ahead 13-7 in the second quar- ter. Gary Jurin raced 67 yards through the middle of the line to score the Trojans' first Touchdown. Dick Roe went over for the second score, and Donnie Little made the extra point. Jim Mullen passed to Tim Tay- lor in the last period for the Trojans' final score. In addition to various other dual meets there will be the conventional East Central Ohio League meet held at Uhrichsville. 'lliis year should see great development of N.H.S. track. Many boys from last year's team are returning in both the track and field events. Some new equipment has been added and competition for places on the traveling squad. will increase the incentive to bring points home to N.H.S.
