Hlxwiew aff 1959 The floodlights are gleaming on the sweeping architecture of the newly built Club '49, designed and constructed by the R. J. Stokes Construction Company. Mr. Stokes is now pulling up in front of the Club to attend the alumni party for the Stars of '49 given by the Club owners, William Thomas, III and Ralph Neal. Other guests are arriving. Among them are actresses Margery Dorsey and Pat Evans, escorted by Albert Beall. The girls have just finished their latest picture Faithless . Albert Beall is currently starred in the stage play Lover , written by Graedon Cornell and Audrey Groff who are also among the guests tonight. Kenneth Carruthers, who won the Indianapolis Speedway this year, can be seen passing car after car as he approaches the Club. The doorman, Earl Tyson, is greeting some famous guests of the sports world. These are: Ruth Art, Coach of the World's Championship Girls Volley- ball team of Peoli University, Dick Hannahs, Football Coach at Northeastern, with his wife Marjorie who is a nurse at the Herbert-Russell Hospital, Booty Moore, Basketball Coach at Northeastern. These two Northeastern teams have brought honor to their coaches by going undefeated for the past three years. Just inside the door way we see Doris Robinson and Audrey Hashman, well known hair stylists at N.C.T. Movie Studios, Los Angeles, California. Doris and Audrey flew east on the Marlatt-Meek Airlines. The crew were none other than Joanne McCune, pilot, Martha Ott, co-pilot, and Wanda Kamban, hostess. On the same plane were Jeanne Murphy, Professor of Dramatics and Marie Murphy, Professor of Music, at Southern California University. As the soft dreamy music of Kenny Patterson's world famous orchestra drifts through the Club '48 we slowly wind our way through the Club meeting old friends. Pausing at the first table we talk to Ruth Burdette, Virginia Taylor and Beatrice Hughes, co-owners of Burtahu Drive-In, Gary Phillips, President of the J. C. Nickle Company, Bradley Guy, owner of a large chain of G.A.I. Super Markets, and Donald Fenton, owner of the famous resort and dude ranch, The Valley of the Sun, near Laramie, Wyoming. Coming across the dance floor are Beryl Kopes, who was voted model house-wife of the year, with Norma Patterson, wife of the internationally known orchestra leader. They report that Julia Maloy an outstanding mis- sionary in China, is unable to attend the alumni party because of her duties on the mission field. Seated at the table at our right are Governor Richard E. Tyler, his secre- tary Phyllis Smyth, and Norma Shurtz, secretary to the proprietors of the Club '4-9, who are also seated at the table. Bill is telling his wife, Hilma, about TWENTY THREE
