Senior Class Prophecy (Continued) thought I might get an idea for redecorating my living room, but instead I met the Wayne Angles (Doris Fisher), the Bob Shows (Mardell Lehman), the Robert Wolfes (Velma Ortt), happily married and probably visiting this attraction to recall honeymoon memories. Roberta Ashelman, President of Vassar, had brought two members of her faculty to the homecoming: Norma Peters, Physical Education and Evelyn Addy, Home Economics. I talked to Florence Widder and Rose Yanai, who are managing a local beauty parlor and learned the fortune of a few old acquaintances from them. Mary Porter is still enjoying married life — after 15 years of it. Jiggs Patterson has a Ford garage at Peoli, and Florence Coker has planted her resources in a Pet Shoppe. Florence told me that Mary Ann Neal, who diligently reading Carl'-0 booklet. won the academy award for her portrayal of Violet in I Bring Her Roses bought a Russian Wolfe Hound from Miss Coker's shop. Ruth Haver has charge of an exclusive New York dress shop. She is Madame Haver now. Edna Wiandt is her most popular mannequin. As 1 wandered up the street f heard someone calling “Step right this way, folks. I looked up to see Carl Johnson selling that marvelous hair tonic that will also cure fleabitus, rheumatism and indigestion. Gathered around him were Bus Warner, baker at Port Washington, Therman Nay and Fred Lehman, race promoters, and John Hillegas, owner of a rollerskating rink. H. S . - - - - 1 was on my way to noonday rations, when I met Dorothea Ray, Head Librarian in the local library. Then Jack Wilson, artist for Vogue, came along with Carl Harstine, who has been chosen chairman of the committee to choose the three best dressed women in the world for this year. Leona Affolter, head of the 4-H Club Movement and Clifford Casteel, local Justice of the Peace followed them. After I had talked with all these friends, I made my way to the Little-Brown Hamburger Shop.” Lester Brown and Eugene Little are owners of this restaurant and Bob Casteel and Chester Robinson are their chefs. Eating in the same restaurant I saw Roger George and John Lawyer who are President and Dean respectively of Harvard University. Other members of the faculty were with them — Ansel Charles, coach; Donald Addy, salesmanship; Eugene Haver, history; and the McCune brothers, instructors in the agricultural course. At a table across the room I recognized Jack McCleary, owner of a world-famous dentist clinic at Orange. Eating with Jack was June Downs, owner of the This page is sponsored by Gephart Dairy Store

SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY Newcomerstown, Ohio September 20, 1955 Mr. Theodore Neighbor, Editor New York Times New York, New York Dear Ted, We were all sorry you could not arrange to return to Newcomerstown for the annual homecoming celebration. You were the only member of the class of 1940 who was not present. After graduation I sort of lost track of most of them — you know how it is — and I suppose you are as ill-informed as I was. So, I thought it might be of interest to you to have me write you about the fate of our one-time fellow students. There is one person the papers never let us forget — that bachelor Governor of Ohio, Robert Thompson. I saw him at the hot dog stand talking with his private secretary, Molly Gainor. It is rumored they are planning a trip to the altar. Governor Thompson was accompanied by General Wayne Boone Wells, who has just THE REST ARE BEHIND returned victoriously from a war with the native tribes of Africa. Because of a wounded leg, he was confined to a compartment of the Governor’s train for a part of the visit and attended by a staff of nurses including Jean Kinkade, Thelma Patterson, and Dortha Clarke. Also in the Governor's party was Robert Best, the wealthy politician. No one knows exactly what his position is, but it is rumored that the Republican Party accepts his word as law. At the Bingo Table I was pleasantly surprised to see Norma Richmond who is spending her time and fortune traveling the world over. When she asked me what I was doing, I told her I was teacher of typing and shorthand at N. H. S. Next I stopped in at the Modem Home for Newlyweds, a new feature of the street fair this year. (Interior decoration by Helen Elliot, Eileen Stephon and Marjorie Grewell.) I This page is sponsored by Scott Candy Co.

Hand-Me-Downs Shoppe, most exclusive antique store in the world. As I paid my check. 1 saw Carl Krebs, who is running an agency that publishes pamphlets on How to be a Radio Expert in Ten Easy Lessons. Fred Booth and Howard Marlatt, filling station operators, were the Dick Bordenkirkers (Mary K. Gardner), and the Harold Andersons (Peg Gwynn), all That afternoon Shirley Kennedy, owner of a chain of grocery stores; Doris Gross, typing teacher at Bliss Business College; and Beryl Kohler, author of a daily newspaper column, Keep Fit, whisked me up to the Daugherty field where Earl Gross, pilot on the B. V. D. Lines and Eugene Woodard, parachute jumping artist were taking people up for a view of New-comerstown from the air. Waiting in line for a ride was Mary C. Comerford, who has been starring as Flossie in Faint Is My Heart, a Broadway production, and bringing down the house with her famous fainting scene. Also waiting his turn was Bill Phillips, concert pianist scheduled to start on a world tour next week. I met Lucille Stocker, internationally-known clothes designer and hair stylist, and we decided to take a ride on the ferris wheel, operated by James Styer. In the line ahead of us I saw Dorothy Stalter, English teacher at Ohio State; Catherine Zwall, the million dollar baby from the five and ten cent store; and Wilbur Barthalow and Walter Opphile, world-famous magicians. On the ferris wheel were Mollie Stewart, who recently starred in Metropolitan's version of By the Highway by Ann Parks; Merdis Coker, blues singer; Mary Stewart, Mildred Sharrock, and Thelma Rothenstine, famous jitterbug trio at the Torch Club; and Oliver Ortt, manager of the Ritz Theater. UUK Jr L A Li IS OUH After riding on the ferris wheel, Lucille and I went next to the merry-go-round. Riding on the horses were Norman McPherson, author of Television in Technicolor ; Jay Neal, who poses for magazine covers; Kathleen McCune, who broadcasts on the Farm and Home Hour; Carl Powell, big game hunter; and Marjorie Dawson, missionary to China. By this time I was ready to go home. A day such as that is tiring — but it was fun — and I ve just begun to realize that the class of '40 has at last made its mark in the world. Sincerely yours, Jean Thompson This page is sponsored by Educational Supply Co. and Rotary
