CLASS HISTORY We of the Senior class of 1954, after completing our high school years, have com- piled this history of the '54 graduating class to better remember the events and activities of this period of our lives. We entered our first year of high school in the fall of 1950, full of the usual enthusiasm and ambition generally attributed to freshmen. The class was then composed of 72 members. The feeling of importance which was given us as high school students was dampened considerably by the process of initiation to which we were subiected. Our tormentors were the graduating class of 1953, then sophomores. The whole process was good-natured, however, and initiation day was enioyed by both initiated and the initiators. Our officers this year were: Noble Richards, President, Betty Updike, Vice President, Colleen Cool, Secretary, Bob Minter, Treasurer. Delegates to the Student Council, which was organized this year, were Pat Pool and Noble Richards. The task of sponsoring us was taken by Mr. Ratigan and Mr. Walker. One of the bright spots in our eventful freshman year, was the Carnival, spon- sored by the graduating classes of 1951 and 1952. The highlight of the Carnival was the crowning of Dan Hansen and Kathryn Craig, the freshman candidates, as King and Queen of the Carnival. This was accomplished by our class selling the greatest number of cake tickets in the annual Carnival cake raffle. As freshmen, we contributed our part to the annual Homecoming festivities by white-washing the N in the traditional manner. The freshman year was brought to a successful finish with our class picnic. The school year of 1951-1952 saw us back, wiser and more seasoned in the ways of high school, but undaunted in spirit and enthusiasm. The class was now composed of 70 members. Our officers this year were: Bob Slenker, President, Neal Purcelli, Vice President, Mauy .lo Hagius, Secretary, Robert Scott, Treasurer. Betty Jo Updike and Bob Slenker were delegates to the Student Council. Sponsor- ship of the class was assumed by Mr. Ratigan and Mr. Jahrman. As sophomores, we enioyed our position as freshman initiators, and planned elaborate initiation and kangaroo court ceremonies. The sophomore year brought with it the added responsibility of preparing a float for the Homecoming parade, which took the efforts of most of the class at 6 a.m. on the day of the celebration. The float, however, was deemed a success. The annual Carnival put forth its challenge again this year, and we nominated Bob Davis and Molly Monahan as candidates for Carnival King and Queen. We rose to meet the task of selling cake tickets, and again emerged victorious, with our candidates being crowned. The school year was once more brought to a close by our class picnic, and we were at the middle of our high school days, ready to become upperclassmen. X
