And Mug Shots ... 125-135 Elementary.............136-157 The End............158-160 Our world, this is it. A world full of new exper- iences, as well as troubled times, new friendships and old. For the freshmen this is a world of new things, floats, friends and many other new ad- ventures to try up in the Big World. Soon those young freshmen will know all the tricks and the connections, but as for now all they can hope is to cope. Now the sophomores are a different story. They aren't the little guys anymore but they aren't the upperclassmen yet ei- ther. They all learned the tricks of the trade last year but soon, they will be the ones breaking in the new recruits. The juniors finally made it. They are now upperclassmen. They still have a lot to look for- ward to though. The prom, and all those days of money raising. Just think, next year it will all be over! The class of '83 only has nine months to accomplish all it takes to go out into the real world. They've had their share of ups and downs, they've been through it all but they still have one exciting thine to look for- ward to (or dread), graduation. What a time, caps, gowns, gifts, announcements, and all that fuss. Our world, a beginning for some, and an ending for others. But for all it is OUR WORLD - BEST OF ALL. 1. What a way to start! Fans show their enthusiasm at a high school football game. 2. Before school, there is always time to mingle among friends as these soph. do. 3. We're number one! 4. What grade did you guys say you were in? 5. Hat day makes football season have a little pizzaz, as Matt Stephens poses to prove. 6. The world of a cheerleader. Practice girls practice!!! WELCOME TO OUR WORLD 1. Pep and spirit show as the crowd gets with it at a pep assembly. 2. POOR TIGERS: A weekly occurance, lockers that are dressed to kill. 3. Paint away Stephanie! Poster art in Ms. Gragg s second hour. 4. MARCH ON!!!! 5. Some juniors show they know what spirit week is on hat day. 6. Typing I is a new experience for young typists in the business world. 7. The world of a busy student consists of classwork as well as homework. 8. Classes got underway August 19 as everyone got back into the groove. WELCOME TO OUR WORLD 3 HOMECOMING HIGHLIGHTS 5 SPIRIT 6 WEEK 7 8 “EASE ON DOWN THE ROAD. The “road in front of Newcastle High School was the setting for a scene that was very easy on the eyes, as the 1982-83 Homecoming floats paraded by. The theme for floats this year was The Movies and each class carefully selected the title that would make the best float. The Junior class won first place with The Wizard of Oz, saying Discourage the Lions . The Sophomores came in second with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Roll over the Lions. Third place was taken by the Freshmen float, The Pirate Movie, captioned Sink the Lions . The Seniors came in fourth with Rocky III, and the slogan Punch Out the Lions. RIGHT: Jr's, take 1st once again. ABOVE: Soph's, almost capture 1st. RIGHT: Mr. Cox shows off. TOP: Rocky and the Lion mix it up. ABOVE: Fresh, place 3rd with honors. 10 11 THIS IS IT! CAUGHT IN THE ACT 1982 Board of Education The men who comprise The Board of Education play such an active roll in school affairs that it is easy to visualize an office build- ing where they spend their hours planning and orga- nizing school business. This is, however, far from true. Each of these men has a full-time career and a family to support. The many hours he devotes to the business of education are a sacrifice of his time and energy at no salary. The 1983 Racer staff says Thank you. Sir! G. Judkins., President. G. Me Calister, member. A. Kammerlocher, member. 18 TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS J. W. Sanders- Superintendent Joe Cox- High school Principal The men who serve as ad- ministrators for the Newcas- tle students are definitely taking care of business and doing a good job of it. Keep- ing the school running smoothly and efficiently is a daily routine that they make seem simple. We are grateful for the extra time and effort put forth to insure a good education for each student. Brooks Mosier, who came into Newcastle in mid- season and took over the program and led the Racers into the play- offs. The Lawrence brothers were with the Racers again this year and that was a big plus for the Racers; who, in turn, stayed together and didn't let the surrounding situations get them down, but just kept on win- ning! They greeted the candidates and their escorts, led in by crown bearer and flower girl, Brent Sikes and Melia Crosby. After much applause and laughter, Rhonda Gilliam, freshman, was crowned NJHS Homecoming Queen. Melia Crosby and Brent Sikes. Danny enjoys crowning Rhonda. 1982-83 J. H. Newcastle welcomed its second foreign exchange student, Cynthia Scholes. Cynthia is from Rotorua, New Zealand which has a population of 48,000; a big difference from the small town of Newcastle. Cynthia was an asset to the student body taking an active part in marching band and chorus. She has a beautiful English accent which we sometimes had difficulty understanding but we always enjoyed hearing. Cynthia enjoyed her visit at Newcastle but missed her family, especially her twin sister, Sonia. I would like to thank everyone at Newcastle for their warm welcome and hospitality. I would especially like to thank the Beasley family and the A.F.S. Chapter for making this year such a wonderful experience, which I will remember always. Haere Rai, Cynthia 91 Since time began. Today has been the friend of man. WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR 92 With every rising of the sun, think of your life as just begun. Wrinkles should merely indicate where the smiles have been. We will remember the closeness and togetherness we have shared for so many years. Yesterday is gone, taking with it the laughter we shared and the tears. But the happy times live on in our memory. A friend is someone who knows you and still likes you. 93 A secret is a treasure shared between friends. AS YOU CAN SEE Don't squeeze the Charmin! A I thought you called wing wight, wing wap, quick twap! Hal Hal-Coke is it!! 1 As We See It £ Give me a smack, and I'll smack you SHHHHHH! Don't tell Mr. Cox. back! 94 THIS IS T983' What?!?! We're losing?!?! Monkey see. Monkey do pi My Three Sons Coach Lawrence! Be my Valentine. I can't believe they dropped me! Durant, here I come! Wait! The goal line's this way!
