The theme of this year’s float competition was Comic Strips” and the participation was excellent. Each class enthusiastically selected its favorite comic strip and began planning the construction of its float. After selecting the barn and trailer, gathering materials, and enlisting sponsors, each group started to work. There was much class spirit and competition was keen with each class vowing to win. The Juniors captured first place with their rendition of Hagar. Enslave the Panthers” was their class theme. The Sophomores landed second with Snoopy. ,Put the Panthers in the Dog House . The Seniors took third with Club the Panthers” from the comic strip B.C. The Freshmen with Bury the Panthers from Marmaduke finished fourth. ijgjgSSBBm ABOVE-. A good shot of all the floats. Some of the highlights includ- ed the annual Christmas party and the District meet- ings at Moore High School. The organization tried to help the community and to promote school loyalty. The big challenge was coordinating the Homecoming parade, half-time ceremonies, and the dance. It was a tremendous success. 18 FBLA The FBLA is in their second year and doing just great. One of the most rewarding activities of the year was sponsoring the Red Cross Blood Drive. The members also attended the Mt. The members of this organization learn, through participation, that one of the greatest of life’s satisfactions can be found in the joy of helping others. The smiles on the faces of the elderly at Christmas, and the knowledge that needs are being met, go a long way in developing character in the young people of our community. OFFICERS, Row .- L. To Brent Freeze, whose indomitable spirit and unfailing courage has been an inspiration to us all. His determination and strength of character will always represent a goal toward which we who are weaker can only strive but never reach. We, the student body of Newcastle High School, would like to dedicate our yearbook to this brave young man whose brief but shining moment among us has touched all our hearts in a unique way and left with each of us a special gift of love. We’ll miss you, Brent. The value of life lies not in the length of days, but in the use we make of them: A man may live long, yet get little from life. Say Chee'7 A new class was offered this year at Newcastle High School, and it was very unusual. Those who enrolled in photography found they learned not only how to use a light meter, focus properly, judge distance, and use a flash attachment, but were intro- duced to the intricacies of a Dark Room. At this point, many of the stu- dents decided they'd rather take pictures than develop them, but all were required by Mr. Cornett to use the equipment and had to complete individual projects. The class proved to be an asset to the yearbook class and one that we're sure will be offered each year. 93 i 39 'C. 94 95 YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY, BAB Y! Row I FFA Sec.. , , Yrbk.
