The High School Student Council worked hard planning the event, and they also worked the rest stop, serving cold drinks and keeping tallies of everyone’s mileage. The bikers put forth a fantastic effort, with people from Elementary through High School riding anywhere from one to fifty miles. A total of $773.65 was raised from the pledges. It was tiresome, but everyone was left with a good feeling, knowing that the money was helping to treat children with many varied childhood diseases. FOR THE FUN OF IT The theme for the 1980 Homecoming Parade was a children’s story. All the classes worked hard, but the Juniors, with “Behead the Bulldogs” came away with the first place trophy, while the Freshmen, with “Stomp the Bulldogs” were first runner’s-up. The Sophomores were second runner’s-up with “Make’em Walk the Plank”, and last but not least, the Seniors, suffering from lack of participation, were third run- ner’s-up with “Whizz on to Victory”. Top Vince has a chance to show his spirit. Above Left ■ Everyone can be proud of the Freshmen’s first float. Above ■ Cheerleaders enjoy spreading spirit. Left ■ Scarecrow leads the Senior float for everyone to see. 9 o The crowning of the 1980 Jr. High Homecoming Queen marked the climax of another exciting Junior High Homecom- ing. As always, the classes were well represented by some of their most beautiful girls. The winner was Freshman Deana Ross, escorted by Eric Kammerlocher. The other Ninth grade candidate was Kristi Reed, escorted by Keith Bolles. The Eigth grade was represented by Laura Moore, escorted by Brett Farley, and the Seventh grade candidate was Rhonda Gilliam, escorted by Jeff Hale. SOMETHING TO COME HOME FOR Sophomore Kathy Dean Junior Karrie Hicks The 1980 Homecoming Queen selection provided a lot of anxious moments and excitement for both the candidates and the students. Everyone could only guess as to whom the football team had chosen as Homecoming Queen. But at last, in the halftime ceremonies conducted during the Newcastle-Sulphur game, the new queen’s name was announced. Schelina Randleman was crowned, and much to her surprise, was kissed not only by her escort, Bill Coats, but also by the other six seniors on the football team. It was a very enjoyable evening, highlighted by the Racers’ 21-7 victory over Sulphur. In the summer, they spent a few days at Grand Lake planning activities for the up- coming school year. They sponsored the St. Judes “Bike-a-thon”, and they worked toward getting improvements on the school parking lot. But their main job was to coordinate the Homecoming Parade and Halftime ceremonies. They selected the judges for the float competi- tion and they made sure everything ran smooth- ly in the parade. They also added a new dimen- sion to the halftime ceremonies, with the addi- tion of the “Royal Court”, which consisted of the Presidents of each organization on campus, and their escorts. StuCo helped to improve student life. 18 A NEW CLUB IN TOWN Row I S. Wiles, President; L. Mollett, Vice-Pres.; E. Kerr, Secretary; M. Livingston, Treasurer; P. Maxey, StuCo Rep.; J. They held their first meeting on October 1, which they elected their officers and made plans for the year. Three committees, Social Service, Fund-Raising, and Education, were organized to help coordinate activities in their respective areas. F.B.L.A.’ers attended the O.S.U. Leadership conference on December 6, and they held their Christmas meeting at Dodson’s cafeteria on December 1. F.B.L.A. sought to develop competent business leaders, and they enjoyed a very successful year. 19 DRAMATIC FANATICS DRAMA CLASS REALLY ACTS UP’ “HEADIN’ FOR A WEDDIN’’’ Row 1: R. Woodall, J. The year has been long anticipated by the Seniors of 1981. Their school experiences have helped shape their personalities, and they, likewise, have left their mark on Newcastle High School. Although in a few years they will be strangers at NHS, they will nonetheless be forever situated in the annals of time as the Seniors of ’81 and their friendships made during this time will hopefully last a lifetime. ZfW) Ote-ft or ReaQaiv 155 At this time, it’s my turn to get in a few closing words. First of all, I wish to thank the rest of the staff for putting up with my constant “knit-picking”, and a special thank you to Sheila for telling me hilarious stories of her fantastic antics on the job. To Mr. Cornett, for his will- ingness to work until 3 A.M. and then haul layouts up to the bus station in OKC in order to meet the deadline. To Mrs. Brewer, for putting up with my pacing about her office while waiting for the mail. And thanks to all the students (especially the Seniors), for making this year so enjoyable and memorable for me. “Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live In peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. May the grade of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all( Corinthians 13:11,14 NIV). Sincerely, Steve Wiles, Editor-in-Chief
