“SENIORS” OF 1972 The Seniors take pride in their class sponsors, Mrs. Cornett and Mr. Young. Mrs. Cornett has co- sponsored the class for the past two years, and Mr. Young has been a co-sponsor since the class's freshman year. Being a member of the Senior Class always brings a feeling of honor and prestige. This year's class has many accomplishments of which they are proud, and one of them is the fact that they are the largest graduating class in the history of Newcastle School. The Seniors are proud also of their academic achievements. Three Seniors, Patsy Downs, Carol Elkins, and Debbie Fulton, made the first-semester honor roll with a straight-A average. Fifteen other class members had a B average or above. Valedictorian is Carol Elkins, and Salutatorian is Kathy Wyant. Steven Slater was given honorable mention on the National Merit Scholarship test. The Seniors are proud of their leadership contribu- tion to our school. Rickey Crawford is FFA President, Connie Simmons is FHA President, Sandy McClain is Yearbook Editor, Larry Mason and James Clay are football co-captains. DaShenna Keller and Connie Simmons are co-editors of the school paper; James Clay is president of the Lettermen's Club. During their high school years, the Seniors have been involved in many class activities both for fun and profit. During the past two years they have had a number of projects designed primarily to raise funds. They also have had a group party each semester, the biggest and best of which was the Senior Class trip to a state park on May 5. The last activities at which the Seniors appeared as a class were Baccalaureate on May 7 and graduation on May 11.
