his year's varsity soccer team had an excellent record, improving greatly since their start last year. They won nearly all their games, leaving only one point too few to make CIF. Under the direction of Coach Dave Singh and headed by the team's Most Valuable Player Pete Young, the team showed it's ability to play an ex- cellent game of soccer. 172 GirI's Tennis twas a learning year for the girls varsity tennis team, according to coach Dave Williams. Although it did not go quite as well as expected, they did start the season with an impressive 6-1 victory over Rio Mesa. Varsity player Dianne Randall at- tributed some of their problems to the T fact that they had lots of injuries. Mr. Wil- y liams also pointed out that the opening of l Westlake High School had taken away - some of last year's players. This year the Sportsmanship Award was T given to Robin johnson. Lori Baeaoan re- l ceived the award for Most Improved Player, while Heidi Lundgren was given the Team Spirit Award. l A ......... SLAM ...- he girls junior varsity team did not have the season they had hoped for. It was an extremely young team according to the coach, who also explained that there were very few returning players. As in the case of the varsity team, the j.V. team also lost many players to Westlake High. De- spite this, Lisa Kane commented that there were a lot of improved players.
