This year Black Orpheus was proud to present its first large scale musical, Bye Bye Birdie. The play was under the direction of John Led- won. Birdie was performed at Sequoia School April 28,29,30, and May 1. Many hours of hard work went into rehearsals, set construction and costuming which resulted in successful per- formances. The cast consisted of: Tom Lian and Don Bernstein as Albert, Jill Baldwin and Jill Ma- rino as Rosie, Gary Godshalk and Gary Heath as Conrad Birdie, Sally Stivers and Linda Hol- ston as Mrs. 'fMama Peterson, Chris Chase and Dean Andal as Mr. MacAfee, Juli Lund and Noreen Abdalla as Kim, Jill Parde as Mrs. MacAfee, Rory Garber as Randolf, Bill Owens as Hugo, Jody Mack as Ursula, Aspasia Drivas as Mrs. Merkle, Mike Sullivan as The Mayor, Sheila Cualinski as The Mayors wife, Sue Huston as Debra Sue, Janics Johnson as Alice, Jeff Bolls as Maude, The Teen Trio was played by: Karen Burger, Kim Ligget and Maureen Hunter. The rest of the group were chorus mem- bers: Mike Barry, Jeff Bolls, Steve Churik, Kris- tina Franke, Keith Hall, Christie Hodson, Elaina Janess, Jeri Kinney, Phil Mareno, Jody May, Denise Mortimer, Mike Nilson, Bob Por- ter, Tim Pierce, Tom Roche, Nicole Von Gaza, Sue Dalberg, and Kim Wiles, Drama teacher from Redwood, Ms. Joyce Johnston as Assist- ant Director, Ralph Goers Stage Manager, Ken Reily Assistant Stage Manager, Jim Shepherd and Mike Wallace on Lighting, Kathy John- son Costumes and Makeup, Jody May Set Decoration. Stage Crew: Dan Lang, Mike Sulli- van, Melodie Claycomb, Mike Smithers, and Jody May. The music was by Terry Cole on piano, Walley Dicky, on drums, Mike Kocis, guitar and Jerry Kocis in bass guitar. I do hereby promise to be loyal, courteous, steadfast and true to Conrad Birdie and the United States of America. The MacAfee family finds out that theylre going to be on the Ed Sullivan Show, and burst into song.
