'-'tri- The Illustrious Faculty This year, like last year, we on the Pawprint staff asked the faculty members to respond to one of a few questions pertain- ing to some aspect of the bi- centennial. We asked them to share their: 1. Favorite period in Amer- ican history that they would have liked to have lived in or may have influ- enced them. 2. Favorite individual in American history that made an impression upon them, to wit, influenced them. 3. Favorite quote by a fig- ure in American history. The enthusiasm of the fac- ulty this year was very impres- sive and our efforts were a suc- cess. Contrary to most students opinions, faculty members are beautiful and very illustrious with the Pawprint staff. L::l' ' I Kristi A, Colell - lfI had my choice, I would have lived at the end of the 19th century and been a member ofthe Sara Bemharts theatre troupe in addition to studying paint- ing with Winslow Homer and sculpture with Frederich Remington. I must add to have lived with these great people I would need 20th century plumbing. Bob Valentine - The only rational way of educating is to be an example- if one can't help it, a waming example. Albert Ein- stein Carolyn tC.J Pinkston - One must not be afraid. One must know how to float as words do, Mthout roots and without watering cans. One must know how to navigate without lat- itudes and longitudes and without motor. Without drugs and without burdens. One must leam to breathe like a wind-meas- uring instrument. The cord must be made of sand, the anchor of aurora borealis. The Diary of Anais Nin, 1934-1939 Mrs. Lorie Brown - I would have loved to have lived in 20's and 30's Hollywoodg to have met some of the great pioneers in mo- tion pictures such as Charlie Caplin, Frank Capra, Cecil B. DeMille, Walt Disney. Ah, the Golden Age of Hollywood! Jan Branham - Choosing one American who has influenced me the most is impossible, but rather I admire all of those who had the courage, pride, and wisdom to question. Pete Fisher - My favorite period of Ameri- can History would be the two score years beginning around 1875. These were years of relative peace and domestic tranquility, tre- mendous strides in agrarian and reunifica- tion and individual importance, exploration and expansion of our boundries and the be- ginning of our country's dominance in domestic, artistic, and intemational affairs. Chris Sawyer - The era of westward expan- sion during the 1800's is the most facinating period of U.S. History for me. The courage and dedication of these early settlers to first survive and then succeed should serve as an inspiration to us all. Few of us ever have to face the hardships that were part of their daily lives. ,x . :gif V- , - A' --I an -i x 'X' My e e in John Ledwon - 1920's - a vibrant, active period in American History. Boy's P.E. locker room attendant- Jerry Naaktgeboren This year, the career center has many plans on the drawing board. Mrs. Lillinigreen has hopes to expand and relocate to a larger facility elsewhere on campus sometime during the sec- ond semester. This will give more roo m to have guest speakers and larger audiences. The career center has had 35 to 40 guest speakers already, and more are anticipated. With Mr. Reed heading up the work experience program, it leaves more time for Mrs. Lillingreen to organize orienta- tions. A special thanks goes to counselors Sylvia Michaels and Jo Anne Gastner for their extended help in scholarship counseling and for the time they spent helping college bound seniors prepare in every aspect of financial aid. On November 18, a college night has scheduled at T.O. with 110 representa- tives from colleges and vocational schools on hand to help both parents and students plan for the future college stu- dents' needs. . Business Department -Teen- age America, the question is not what your employer can do for you, the question is what you can do for your employer? Can you type, do you know shorthand, can you operate office machines, do you know how to keep a set of books, can you sell goods and ideas, or are you going to join the 3095 of un- employed high school gradua- tes who have no skills? Get Some skills so you have some- thing to offer a perspective em- ployer. Offer him some skills he can't refuse. Home Economics Department - Home economics courses emphasize learning about personal relationships and management of resources as time money and energy. They believe that skills in communication, parenting, problem solving, and meal planning and preparation are much needed by todays young people. This past year they had a baby bath demonstration by a father and his twelve week old daughter, freshmen punching out some frustrations on a batch of bread dough with the odor of freshly baked rolls drifting upstairs to torture busi- ness classes, boys sewing themselves knit shirts, girls watching a make-up demonstration, a public health nurse doing a baby exam to teach about health care and seniors learning how to buy a used car. Business Department Larry Johnson - Of course, for myself, I live intensensely and am fed by life and my value, whatever it be, is in my own expression of that. By Henry James, 1915. Amy DeWolf - Given the choice, think and would choose to live in no other time than the present, because we have the opportunity to witness more change in a life time than any previous genera- tion.
