That was assistant coach George Hurley talking about the 1974 junior varsity foot- ball team which had just finished its season with a perfect 9-0 record and a league championship, the best l.V. team in all of Ventura County. The sophomores outscored their opponents 336 to 68, an average per game score of 37-7. While the offense was rolling to big scores, the defense prevented their op- ponents' offense from ever scoring more than twice in one game. Even more impressive, the first team defense was scored upon only three times all season. Consider that the sophs beat Agoura 40-8 tAgoura finished 2nd in their leaguel, they beat Buena 40-16 fBuena won their league titlej and they defeated Camarillo 36-0 1Camarillo finished 2nd to the Panthersl. The l.V.'s crushed other Ventura County teams by scores of 41-6, 34-14, 34-0, and 42-a. The junior varsity's high scoring offense was led by leff Mathews, Dennis Carlson, and Ken Mosley. Helping Mathews average nearly 160 yards rushing a game was an offensive line of leff Wilfong, Bob Reed, Dave Henson, Ron Barr, Steve Willis, and Bob Hughes. The powerful defense was led by lim Dykstra, Kurt Kohler, Pete Suterko, Rod Manson, and Trevor Hambrook. 'We had no weaknesses, the talent was super, the con- sistency great. ln 18 halves of football we scored on our opening drive 13 times. That kind of consistency doesn't give the other team a chance.
