Brad Nelson My most memorable student ls m dog Slick Mathematics The mathematics department of N.P.H.S. is the largest elective department in the school. The applications for the logical reason- ing structure of mathematics is un- limited. This year we have been attempting to enlarge the Honors' Program's calculator and computer equipment, and give instruction to each student on how to operate it. 150 Faculty i if George Hurley Happiness is working hard for two years and seeing your work pay off in an undefeated football season. Allen Epstein No comment. Robert R. Thomas Mr. Thomas, observing that one of his students is not paying attention to the explanation of the Pythagorean Theorem: What do you think David? Davis pops up in his seat and says, Er, aw, uh, what do you think, Mr. Thomas? Mr. Thomas answers, David, I don't think, I know! David answers, Hwell, Mr. Thomas, I don't think I know either. lim Wilkes At the end ol my third year of teaching, after putting up with and then dealing with students shooting rubber bands in class, my geometry class presented to me a wooden plaque award for patience. Attached to it was a 12-foot tail made of rubber bands. Iohn Mutolo Brush-off in parking lot. Dennis McKeown My most humorous moment occurred last year when my third period class, seeking a rest from their constant laughter at my jokes, used a recorded laugh track one day. Francis Simonin No comment. lea LaBarthe My most memorable student was the one who offered me S50 for an A. Kathy Vieth My most memorable students! I'd need 1200 words just to name them. Each has been memorabley each has been unique in some way.

ig., Arno Kanitz My most memorable teaching experience is the streaker who came in from the cold. Marcine Solarez No comment. William Reilly No comment. ludy Susan Urrutia One of the most memorable tand embarrassing! events during my teaching career at NPHS was when I had to deliver, straight-faced, a cer- tain line in the faculty play last year. For those of you who don't remember the line . . . good! Home Economics leanne Scanlin Many years ago, while addressing my very first class and trying to appear extremely mature, I very formally an- nounced, Now l shall pass out the cheating sarts -my first, but not last, blooper. Leonard Steele No comment. Nancy Biedebach Teaching, day by day, is a humorous experience in itself. Especially when you have students who do things like putting a whole onion in their soup when the recipe calls for onion to taste Edith Grossman While showing my students the proper way to cut lettuce, I had a protest from one of the girls. She told me that her mother had warned her against cutting it. The reason? The vitamins would fall out the ends! Amy DeWolfe I remember one of the boys from my co-ed foods class choosing classtime to prove to a friend his theory that an egg can stand great pressure end to end and not break. Either the theory was wrong or he slipped, the egg exploded 10 feet in all directions with a few of us in range. ,mf 632 E at E r h Mary Ann Revello No comment. Home Economics is involved with preparing high school students for the outside world. The subiects included in Home Economics teach the student to be independently wise with the basic knowledge of living away from home. English and Mathematics, courses which are required, aren't used on a daily basis. Everyday of his life, a student will put to use what he has learned in Home Economics-whether it's anywhere from handling money to handling children. Faculty 149

Richard Freed Gary McGinnis No comment. No comment. Fine Art , as Norm Sanford Marilyn Simone No comment. No comment. Kristi Colell My most humorous experience 1974, in two words, is Donald Dubnow. Dennis Reed, D.C. After explaining to a class that we only had a limited number of rulers which must be properly cared for, I heard a loud snap. As much to his own surprise as to mine, a student in the front row had broken a yardstick over his own head. Pete Fisher, Music D.C. Six days in beautiful Hawaii with 140 terrific students and a great half-time show has to be my most memorable teaching experience. Ron Shannon No comment. Art Maldonado Students I will never forget are: Anita, Lynn, Tracy, Gary, Paula, Kim, Carrie, Denise, Wendy, Tammy, Maurya, Phil and Bill-and not necessarily in that order. Lorie Ponzuric My most memorable events at Newbury Park High School have been the opening nights of each of the plays. After all of the time spent in rehearsal, and all of the nervous butterflies before the shows, the applause at the final curtain is most appreciated. Bob Valentine No comment. Art Department Dear Mom, The art department at this school is really great! They have film festivals every month: Betty Boop, Horror movies, and stuff like that. In December we decorated Fazio's Market for Christmas. There are lots of great courses to take, like print- making and photography. The photo lab has been improved, and now people with cameras are all over school, and developing very well. Many students won awards at the Pageant of the Oaks con- test for their work in painting, drawing, and photography. All of the art teachers are back, including Mrs. Colell, who took last year off to have a baby! She enjoyed the vacation so much, she's taking another. All her vacations seem to come with babies. I think I'll take art next year. Your son, Herman Music Department The music department comes in assorted sized and shapes, 150 band members and attached units marched in parades and performed half-time shows, while 85 Black Orpheus members gave their talent to musical shows throughout the year from Back-to- School Night through the Spring Show. Others, such as the stage band, have performed at various school activities in concert, and hosted their own lazz Festival. Faculty 151
