5 4 S ludy Beck No comment. Chris Pagliaro The 1970 football game between T.0.H.S. and N.P.H.S. It was the first football game between the two high schools and it ended in a 48 to 48 tie. Rick Scott As I complete my fourth year of teaching, I believe that all students are memorableg but some do stand out in my mind for various reasons. I remember students that smile and enjoy school. It's these students who get involved with whatever they do that make me feel that what I am do- ing is worth my effort. Roy Gilmore How could anyone forget the fond memories of little Chickie Hearn, Steve Apperson? I thought after last year no one could top you, but this year I found a new you in Bryan Torrey. Chris Sawyer No comment. john Uelman, D.C. All of my students are memorable, especially what's-her-name. lames Mcllwain No comment. Terri Rigali My most humorous event was the day Iulius Caesar fell asleep in my social studies class. X M is ,... X - 8 ' 'ii' K -- 1.5 Warren Firth On Friday the 13th, to the delight of my sixth grade class, I bent over to mop up a mess from a leaky drain and ripped my trousers. 146 Faculty Social Science This year the social science depart- ment has been working together to br- ing a more unified approach to various subjects, in order to overcome the program changes and class alternating each semester. Separate programs have also been instituted by members of the social science department, such as Mrs. Meyers' psychology studies at Camarillo State Hospital. Paul Coffman No comment. Robert David No comment. Cheryl Meyers While lecturing, I was walking around the room and stood next to the pencil sharpener. I started to move forward, but my hair was wrapped around it. ..,-4-W3 'i r 1 , Kathy Dwire No comment. Worth Crouch The morning of November 20, when Ms. Diane Heiken got into my drawers in front of my second period class. Pam Dennis Teaching is a funny experience in itself. It's the stupid and funny things my students and I do daily that keeps me coming back each Monday-like painting my room, installing a televi- sion showing it off-and then dis- covering it isn't my room. Ken Barone My most memorable event was coaching the 1973-74 Rio Mesa basketball team into the semi-finals of CIF playoffs, and then being ap- pointed Varsity Basketball coach here at Newbury Park. Ken Cook No comment. Diane Heiken I was showing a movie on apes for a 7th grade anthropology class. I asked the students to please try and sit in their seats instead of climbing over them and swinging from the lights like an ape. While walking back to my desk, I tripped on the proiector cord, unplugged the movie, and knocked over a student's desk. . ll

Dorothy Beau bien Yes, my heart of stone really does bleed for you! English students exceed school enrollment There are 2,650 students enrolled in Newbury Park High School, but 2,680 enrolled in English! Full classes, busy teachers, excitement about langua e and literature - all these descrie the English program in our high school. In one room is a beautiful driftwood mobile showing the symbolism of The Scarlet Letterp in another room, a Ken doll with five changes of velvet costumes - all for the miniature Hamlet. From another class comes the ringing tone of a modern-day Marc Antony. In still another room, students pore over a dictionary trying to get to the root of the root. Since the stud of English is a combination of the building of skills and the discovery of content, each English class, includin electives, offer all the aspects ofg English - reading, writing, speaking, conjuga- tion, declension, paragraphingl, ex- plication, understanding and t eme - and did you know that when Charles Darnay went to Paris .... Have you heard what is happening in South Africa .... and did ou hear and what do you think ....? 48 faculty Rita Brendon All of my students are memorable and I cannot single out one student or one event to tell-but I can tell you that I collect and save these fond memories, as one might save scraps of fine cloth, and I plan to make a beautiful patchwork quilt with them to keep me warm when I'm too old to teach. Ron Hertz I found it humorous twith a twinge of pain and sadness! that a few adults angrily criticized my classes because students are free to express themselves. leanette lennett My most memorable students have been those I have met this year at NPHS. Arriving as a new teacher medway in the lirst semester, I asked some of my classes to tell me of themselves and their needs. Instead of requests and complaints, I received notes of welcome and offers of help. Thanks-I think you're great. David Holmboe When I was student teaching, I entered my science fiction class dressed as Cyrano de Bergerac. I had a long, red cardboard nose, a poncho for a cape and a yardstick for a sword. Now that Ed Sullivan's show is gone, what's left? The Sonny Comedy Revue? Leland David No comment. Virginia Gangsei, D.C. One day in English 4 the students began to leave without being dis- missed. I asked them to sit down, ex- plaining that since I ruled so seldom, I wanted to be at least queen of dis- missal. The next day the students marched into the room with a pillow on which rested a sceptre. With it was a scroll signed by all her loyal subjects to Queen Virginia. Randy Nixon No comment. Tana Orshoff The most memorable students I've had are all the students I've worked with: The giggly ones, the serious ones, the sunshiny ones, the bored ones, the puzzled ones, the in- terested, the imaginative, the warm- hearted, the confused, the challenged, 11 Robert Miller My most memorable students are those who have received an A in my class.
