Softball team swings into action Ieanne Malmo releases pitch after wind-up. Cindy Iensen swinging into action. lt's an easy catch, Colleen. I The Iunior Varsity Softball L team was working in almost the same manner as the Var- sity team. Late workouts, weekend practices, and the closeness of the team brought on a very deserving season. The team consisted of mainly freshmen and sophomores, all of whom had never played on the NPHS team before this year. In the beginning of the season, there were approximately -- thirty girls trying out. Out of this thirty, only fifteen were chosen to compete. Coaching the I.V.'s this year was Diana Doyle, a first year teacher at our school. Her constant, optimistic outlook on the season gave the team the con- fidence they needed to enjoy playing as well as winning. Coach Doyle remarked, This I.V. team has been a talented and enthusiastic group of girls who have worked hard, but also have enjoyed play- ing good softball. Girl's Athletics 137

Varsity softball team slides into victor Coach Connie Winsky You're outl Genie Garber releasing pitch. Softball season began on March 31 of this year. After days of long practices, the first game was played on April 11. The last game of League play was May 6. The Varsity Softball team consisted of many good players, some of them were returning for their second year. Those returning included Nanci Downing, Teri Hart, Cathy Sherman, Patty Harpel, Rhonda Torres, Genie Garber, Diane Wilson and others. Coach Con- nie Winsky's main plan was to keep the team together for lots of practice and team work. Her ideas were carried out and worked well, as was seen throughout the season. The positive attitude of team members was shown through their outstan- ding play while outfield, or strategical maneuvers when batting. Bring 'em all in, Robin! 136 Girl's Athletics Reach out for the sky. 7lWWf7Q7'r74QS'T'Xf'77f7'x3f'TXT1.'XIf'N7' kwa W'-7' 'G Y' 1-1Ws.:.f.....f tt ...Qw w. te, f?wxv.3Tffi,X x . xx, X, 't'f7'-X,,.brffxg 1 fs '- . ,.,., w 2 fix' XC . aaaa .,.,, 1 A , k N ., , .N , ,.,1 9 fe 'o o.. fy rx cE'c A y ' H 1 1 co o . .
