loyol still, ond true. CC A Miss R. BELL CHAPMAN We, the class of 1956, dedicate our yearbook to Miss R. Bell Chapman. It is with the greatest of respect and gratitude that we and countless numbers of people look upon her. To past students of N. F. A., she brought alive in her classroom many writings of great authors. To them and to us she gave our cherished and honored Alma Mater, The Yellow And The Blue . In the year 1890, when Newburgh Free Academy adopted yellow and blue as its school colors, Miss Chapman wrote this song which is now sung with pride, honor, and joy, by all of us, and shall continue to be for many years to come. As long as we all shall live, a special place in our hearts will belong to Miss R. Bell Chapman, who taught, with tolerance and kindliness, so much, to so many.

When our steps have left these portals Time and change have had their way Still will sound the old time slogan Newburgh, Newburgh, N. F. A.! And the memory backward turning, Finds us loyal still and true To the school whose treasured emblem Is the Yellow and the Blue. FOREWORD How many times and with how many different thoughts have we sung these words to our beloved Alma Mater! Our school song, written in 1890 by Miss R. Bell Chapman, to whom we fondly dedicate this book, is cherished by all of us. But have we ever taken its phrases apart, said them slowly, thought about them? This year our staff decided to do just that, and the result you will see in the following pages. Each line has suggested a thought, each thought a picture, and each picture, a treasured memory of NFA.
