I CLASS PROPHECY the summer of 1958 I arrived in the much larger town of Newburg for a month's vacation from my Job in Washington, where I have an orphanage My brother Lavern, a prosperous dairyman, or near Newhung met me at the station We went over to one of the largest Katz Drug stores in the country where Newburg Pharmacy once stood The building near there drew my attention, to my surprise, to the office of Dr Amil Ganaway Lavern told me that Amil had become one of Newburg's greatest doctors After a coke, we went touring Newburg where the Houston Hotel stood in l9b7 was a larger hotel co owned by Kenneth Noland and Jr Smith We found Kenneth sitting in the lobby, listening to the railroad men and Jr doing all the work Kenneth said Robert Miller was their piano player on thelr Star Light Roof, and that Bob Decker was a representative of Sunrise Donut Company Going out of the hotel, we met Marvin Lila, who owns a large lumber mill He told me that Maxine Ellifrlts and Joyce Prewett had become successful teachers and were teaching in Long Island, N Y soon came to a large super garage and were surprised to find Bud Cochran working on his old Dodge He told me it ran just as good as in l9L8, and that Qetty Trotter had marrled a prosperous farmer and lived in Happy Hollow He also said that Jean Simmons lived in Ohio with her husband, who owns a ceramics plant and was While walking up Broadway, to my surprise, we met Jean Kelley She said she was home on a vacation for she was a popular singer traveling all over the world I asked her about our friend Donnie McNerney She said Donnie had gone on to school and was now a dentist's wife and his assistant She also said that Norma Jo Pill man was doing very well as an artist and taking care of her family Going on we met Pauline Yelton, who told us she had married had twin boys and that they lived in the suburbs of town I asked her about Davene Wilson and Dorothy Helms She said Davene was a clothing designer, but still wore her 'jeans and shirts ' Dorothy had married her old friend of 'AS and he was a mechanic in Cochran's garage In our chat it was also brought out that Doris Blue had married, and lives in St Louis She had become an expert file clerk and typist Going over my list I found only one person left, my best friend, Dorothy Hunter, and as you know I kept track of her She is now the wife of a professor and is livlng in Chicago Now that I am up to date on the facts of the class 'L8, I really must be gettlng back to my chlldren at the orphanage I have cer tainly enjoyed seeing and hearlng about all my old classmates and thelr making good 1n life, and apparently everyone is situated happily in his chosen fleld So I, Wilma Strawhun, bid you farewell once again In , We Y his secretary. 1 x -.., x,LCk ' :FH 11 bow N er n bv were X Lur C lb PHT Q ui' Lark t JRIQI' Ytfi EFL.: PT. ,LJ ,L b.rAS were u e Lay .
