The National Honor Society was organized in our high school in 1927. The emblem of the Chapter is a flaming torch, which is the symbol of light borne into the dark places. It is only fitting, therefore, that the motto should be Light is the symbol of truth . The colors of the organization, blue and flame yellow, make this motto even clearer. Blue is the symbol of truth within us. Flame yellow symbolizes light with which truth radiates the world. The ideals for which the society stands are scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Membership is limited to those students who maintain a B average throughout high school. In the past fifteen percent of the Senior class was elected. Now, five per cent of the Juniors and ten per cent of the seniors not already members are elected. New members are initiated on Class Night. To date there have been 89 boys and 197 girls installed in the National Honor Society from Newberry High School. DGECH ClUB First row, l, to r.
