E yy. opposition for the Bull Dogs. Th1s was one of the best games of .4 gl the season and it was only after a hard struggle that the Bull Dogs QI won, 12 to 0. I P 5.4 E On October 26, a hard-lighting team from Johnston came to Q Newberry to pit their strength against that of the Bull Dogs. It 5 E was a hotly-contested game, and the Johnstonians fought hard but 3 gg in the end the Bull Dogs came out victorious by a score of 12 to 6. The strong Saluda team came next to battle the Bull Dogs. bi. Realizing the district championship was at stake the boys were all determined to light harder than ever. The Bull Dogs, by theirend ig QI runs and line plunging, won the victory by a 19 to 0 score. , . On November 8, during the county fair, the Bull Dogs defeated 'Q' -Il the team from Washington-Parkville High School by the score of if 3 33 to 12. This victory gave Newberry the championship of district m -I number ten. I- 2 The most heart-breaking game of the season was played at Q Si: Winnsboro between Newberry, champions of district 10, and Ches- gg :rf chacingions of distgictg 4. TheFIBull Dogs fought hard but were , I e eate y a score o to 0. 'his ended Newberry's hope for In , Q upstate championship but the boys played hard and deserve much yn praise. 1.4 I 1 s: The final game of the season was played against Clinton at Q Clinton. Newberry got the start on her opponent and scored two H touchdowns before Clinton knew what it was all about. The Q remainder of the game was nip and tuck between the teams. Ghz 1929 Ebracle The 1928 Football Season The football season of '28 was a wonderful success for the Newberry High School football team. For two consecutive years the Bull Dogs have won the championship for district number ten. A march to the state c.hampionship was started only to be halted by Chester at Winnsboro. Nevertheless a good season was enjoyed and out of nine games played seven were won and two lost. During the season a number of new players were discovered who will add greatly to next year's team. The season opened with a 7 to 6 defeat by Winnsboro at Winnsboro. However, this was Newberry's Hrst game and the boys showed up fine. On October 5, the Bull Dogs played their first game at home with McCormick. Newberry had little trouble in disposing of the visitors by the score of 49 to O. Page Sixty-two
