FORWARD The purpose of a yearbook is to help a student recall his happy high school days. We, the staff, sincerely hope that in the years to come the 1959 Chehalem will attain this purpose. Q This year the Chehalem theme is the Centennial, commemorating Ore- gon's being a state for 100 years. The scenic pictures were obtained through the courtesy of the State Highway Commission. WALTERS EUNA G -'-'S SECRETARY SECRETARY Superintendent Loran Douglas tops the efficient ad- ministration of the Newberg public school system. His job is to solve the problems of school government and school policy. Although our principal, Earl Gillis, is kept busy with school problems, he finds the time to know every pupil. He is always willing to discuss any problem with us. Silas Wallace, clerk at Newberg high, has earned the respect of faculty and pupils. The board members of District U-6-.l are constantly working on the problems that confront them. These prob- lems concern school finance, policy, administration and construction. The secretaries, Mrs. Edna Gillis and Mrs. Mabel VValters, are continually busy keeping the office running at top speed. They are always willing to help the faculty and the students alike.
