Student Control Day Teachers Each year the Student Council plans and conducts a Student Control Day. On this day the Student Council President assumes the responsibilities of the Principal, and the Vice-President, those of the Vice-Principal. Other students chosen by the Junior and Senior High teachers, with Student Council approval, take over the duties of the High School teachers. This is an event which everyone anticipates, for few if any other schools in this vicinity have such an annual event. Though much pleasure and enjoyment come to us from participating in this activity, it is felt that there are certain benefits gained from it: teaching experience, responsibility and poise. 6

To the members of the Class of '53 Congratulations on your success as graduates of our Newark Valley Central School. May you go from here better equipped with the knowledge that you have at- tained. Your yearbook theme, We like our school, is a good one, for by it you show that you have enjoyed your years here and that you appreciated them as well. Appreciation is part of your growing up. Thirteen years, five days a week, forty weeks a year is a long time to spend in school. What an opportunity you had to appre- ciate, but did you? Let,s see: what did you do each day to make your teachers' job easier? How well did you prepare those assignments? Consider the time and thought given by those who serve. By giving serious con- sideration to these ideas, may you all go forth with that appreciation to serve and to build a life that will make this a better and safer world in which to live. Donlt be discouraged or disheartened by the hardships you may encounter during your life, as these may be stepping stones to a greater life of service. The easy road may lead to a life of ruin and misery rather than to a life of appreciation. May God richly bless each one of your lives. YV. H. STIMMING 8 lQLf!,.1,w.zfwaL W.
