Returning home from Columbus in the family Jaguar, an January 14, Ieffrey Theodore Coelho met death midst a dense fog that almost completely shrouded Route 16. Robert Kern, who was driving th Coelho Packard approximately 150 feet ahead of jeff, said that he had looked up into the rear view mirror to note his friend's headlights following along. Kern lowered his eyes. When he looked Q 4 i l I again he saw no headlights, but instead the dim silhouettes of several cars angled in the highway. Haulting the Packard and running back to his friend, Kern discerned that the soul of jeff was gone, he noted the body pinned behind the steering wheel. According to Kern the steering gear seemed to be at fault even before the boys left Columbus. It is thought that bcause of the deep fog, and because the steering mechanism seemed to pull to the left, Ieffis eastbound sports car collided in the north lane of Route 16 with the auto of Billie Lee Tumbling fclass of 1943D, according to the Newark Advocate, january 15. Tumblinis car had just pass- ed the intersection of Summit Station Road when the accident occurred. Jeff was pronounced dead upon his arrival at St. Anthony,s Hospital, Columbus, at 7:05 p.m. So jeff's numbered days came to an end ab- ruptly. But Ieffis days will continue on in the mem- ory of his many friends and classmates as the twinkle in his eyes returns to the minds of us all to let us recall happier times. 9
