' 1 q,'Q' q' ,.i' 5 At seven o,clock in the morning of May 25, 1956, Ronald Lee Cunningham, I 'QHA if ',,.'i '31ff13f member of the junior class of Newark High School, passed away as a result of A , V Q 11,., 3 if complications brought on by a severe case of mastoiditis. On May 8 he had , VEEI ' nui .1 .bni complained to Mr. Bernard Nye, his home room teacher, about discomfort ,,b.: if ,,. V. ,, 1 around the area of one of his ears. The following day, when he still complained Q p,r.lfQ, of the discomfort and asserted that the pain was spreading, Mr. Nye prevailed iff? g' ,V Q:'j1'53 upon him to report his illness to the office. The office sent him home. Surgery ' 'll '. a day or so later cared for the mastoid condition but also revealed an infection ff': that had settled on the brain. Emergency surgery at University Hospital in Co- , W lumbus was unable to save his life. He lay in a critical state until his passing on .- , , : ,sg ' A May twenty-fifth. Ron was an active member of the band in which he played trumpet. In addition he was active in dramatics work. On May 4 and 5 he acted a part in the Senior Class-Thespian play Remarkable Incident at Carson Corners. What he did he did well and with sincerity. A student who knew him only casually but had been around him in dramatics activities said, Ronald was always a gentleman. He was always considerate of othersf' And so passed a youth into eternity. Tears came into the eyes of one of his band friends when he spoke of Ronis dying. Thus Ron had not lived in vain. He passed away leaving a feeling of warmth and 1'espect in the hearts of all he knew. He filled his niche in life to the fullest of his ability, and as thus he will be remembered long by all who knew and loved him. FRANCIS ANTHONY Mooma: Another underclassman member of the cast of the Senior Class-Thespian Troupe play to lose his life within a comparatively short time after the produc- tion was Francis Anthony Moore, a junior. Seriously injured on the evening of November 18, 1956, while riding with a man to help to fight a brush fire near the Kilgore munitions plant, Francis passed away in Newark City Hospital dur- ing the afternoon of November 15. He was active in dramatics while attending NHS. As a sophomore he was a member of the debate team. In addition he was an active Explorer Scout and was a member of the Ground Observer Corps. Francis was also affiliated with the Neal Avenue Methodist Church. Francisis contagious smile, his sense of humor, his zest for life have been noticeably missed by his many friends. He filled his place in life well and made his mark on earth as he will in heaven. 12

In gmiemnriam Preparing the evening meal on May 17, Mrs. Paul Ben- nington, home economics i teacher at Newark High School, became quite ill suddenly. A Granville physician who happened to be passing the Bennington home administered first aid, however, by the time the regular attending phy- sician had arrived, Mrs, Bennington had passed away. Mrs. Bennington had taught school all day, Thursday, Around 12:30 in the morn- the seventeenth, but had planned to be absent the following day to attend the funeral of a friend of the family. Mrs. Bennington came to Newark High School in the fall of 1953. Here she was loved and respected by her many friends and students because of her pleasant disposition and coopera- tive attitude. ' I , 1 ' ::zg:.:...,.:':' 1 ij ' is ing of March 31, Lindel Lee York, sophomore, lost his life in a serious automobile accident in front of the Dairy Queen store on West Church street. At Newark Hospital doctors tried valiantly to save the life of Lindel, but at two o'clock X he passed away. Lindel was the life of his home room. He was always laughing and seemed to get a big kick out of life. Greatly admired by his friends, he will be sorely missed by his school companions.
