THE 1954 BAND CONCERT The 1954 band concert was gnven Three performances the afternoon of Aprsl 21 and the evennngs of Aprtl 22 and 23 The affalr was under the dlrectnon of Myron Pearce The furst half of the program was com posed of numbers by the Beglnners Band wnth Judlth Kreager as student director e lntermedlate Band wlth Sonya Clark as stu Rhapsody Leldzen and the selected state contest number Pax et Labor Pares The concert contunued wnth June Toland playmg the trombone solo Loves Enchantment Pryor Ballet Parlslen, Offenbach whlch conslsted of Overture Valse Galop Valse and Funale a duet of flute Loss Rlggs and French horn Suzann Doughty playing Serenade Tntl the fantasy Park Avenue wlth Elame Croy slnglng the so dent durector and the Junvor Band wuth Kenneth Kung as director The program by the Newark Hugh Con cert Band read as follows the theme song Wonderful Copenhagen directed by Stu dent Dnrector Loss Riggs and Prlde of the Marunes Edwards also dlrected by Lois Riggs Mr Pearce then grasped the baton to dlrect on alternate nlghts the required state contest number Second Swedlsh lo a trombone fantasy Two Palrs of Slap pers Putman whuch featured the trom bone sectuon a novelty Johnny Peel Lzttle which featured Eddle Jones Basin Street Spencer a blues number featurlng Jerry Bnshop and the march Stars and Strlpes Forever Sousa The theme song concluded the program John McDonald acted as Master of Cere momes I3
