7a ' JAMES WARDEN ROACH Buckeye Lake claimed the life of James Warden Roach on May Sl, l953. He was a member of the ninth grade at Lincoln Junior High School. Active in choral en- semble and operetta at Lincoln, Jimmy was T well liked by students and faculty alike. TOOTHAKER His friends and teachers will miss him over the years. ROACH WILLIAM ROGER TOOTHAKER AND JERRY PHILLIPS The murderous highwayman of the Twentieth Century, Automobile, snuffed out the lives of William Roger Tooth- aker, sophomore at Newark High School, and Jerry Phillips, freshman at Roosevelt Junior High School, during the evening of PHILLIPS September 26 when, as they rode out of a side road onto Granville Road on a motor- scooter, they found themselves in the path of a speeding car coming from the west. The accident occurred around ten o'clock in the evening. Phillips had succumbed to his iniuries by the time the ambulance reached the hospital, Tooth- aker expired about ten minutes after he entered the hospital. Roger Toothaker was a member of the band and played in the saxophone sextet. At Central Junior High School he had been a member of the lightweight basketball team. ln addition, he was a Boy Scout and a baptized and confirmed member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jerry Lee Phillips had just entered Roosevelt Junior High School in Sep- tember of 1953. He attended Newark Township School before coming to Roose- velt. He was in chorus and was manager of a basketball team. Their early exodus from this life was a shock to friends and teachers. Long after their tragic demise they will linger in the memories of their friends.
