BAND CLUB In 1939 the Band Parents Club was organ tzed wtth tts chief oblecttve beung the promo txon of the welfare of the Band The parents of the band boys and gurls make up its mem bershlp Meetlngs are held on the last Mon day of the month an the musxc room at the hugh school The current year for the club was a busy one with nts hnghlnght benng the purchasmg of new uniforms for the 102 piece band The usual procedure of purchasung needed mstru ments and furnashlng transportatnon to foot ball games was followed ln addltlon to thrs there was a trtp to Ohto Untversrty In Novem ber where the band partlcnpated an a 1250 prece mass band concert and the trlp to the Clncrnnatu state basketball tournament I July the club held the annual pncnlc at Buck eye Lake for all the band members throughout Newark Snnce 1952 was Sesqutcentennlal year for Newark the club was acttve with a booth In the sale of aprons plllows and many other thmgs The bazaar at Christmas time was a success Followtng the home football games the club served lunches to both the VISITIHQ bands and our own band members Tag Day around the Square In December was a profitable protect Parents of the band were guests at Buckeye Lake tn January at the annual banquet held for the band each year at which time seniors were honored The club assusted an housung and banquet :ng vlsltnng band students during the Sprung Band Festlval held rn May 1953 Offncers for the year were George Bishop presndent George Toler vtce presudent Mrs Earle De Long secretary and Raymond Hart treasurer PTA The Newark Hugh School Parent Teachers Assocuatuon held nts meetnng on the thtrd Thursday nn Octobr December February and April Thts years membership totaled 419 The furst meetung was open house with a large attendance The Idea of thus meeting was to have the parents and teachers get ac quatnted The second meetung was a panel dlscussuon The panel conslsted of two stu- dents two teachers and two parents The Idea of thus program was to answer questtom that had come up concernung school The pro gram for the third meeting was furntshed by last meetlng was unannounced when thus book went to press Officers for the school year were Mrs L M Schultz presldent Mrs Wllbur J Strlcker frrst vlce presldent Mr Frew C Boyd second vtce presndent Mrs J C Hepsworth secretary and Mrs Robert Wtlkun treasurer O I I ' ' .
