The l946 Prize Awards Excellent Weather allowed gradu- ation ceremonies to be resumed at White Field after an absence of two years. The Commencement was held at six-fifteen olclock during the eve- ning of May 29, 1946, at the stadium. Two students, Eleanor Marie Dilts and Ursula Ann Lea, won the William E. and Annie S. Miller Prize in Eng- lish. ' The Latin Medal, awarded by Zeta Chapter, Denison University, of Eta Sigma Phi, was presented to Ursula Ann Lea and Mary Linda jeffries. The Harvard History Prize, for boys, was presented to Frank XVine- garner Spencer, Ir., the Theodore Roosevelt History Prize, for girls, was given to Mary Linda jeffries. Eleanor Marie Dilts received the French Prize, which is given to the student having the highest French average for two years. Ursula Ann Lea received the Le- land Baxter, jr., Award for outstand- ing Work in journalism. For excellent work done in the com- mercial course, Darlene Marie Smith earned the Commercial Award. Seven students who earned at least one hundred and fifty points in de- bate work received the National For- ensic Award. They were Ioan Den- man, Eleanor Marie Dilts, Evon Chris- topher Evans, Raymond William Hand, Ursula Ann Lea, Frank Wine- I age Twentv Four garner Spencer, jr., and Geraldine Mae Steinman. A Trophy, presented in memory of Florence M. King, was awarded to William Edgar Shell for outstanding dramatic achievement. To the outstanding, all-round girl -Ursula Ann Lea-was given the Soroptimist Club Award. The Roger Sedgwick Award, an award of fifteen dollars for excellence in basketball, was presented to Bill Dean Goldsmith. Likewise, the Ath- letic Award, presented to the best all- round athlete, was given to VVilliam Ryan Fleitz. The coveted Harvard Cup, award- ed to the best all-round boy, was pre- sented to Gene Douglas Morin. Three colleges offered scholarships to prospective students. Margaret Marie Lammers received a sch-olar- ship amounting to one hundred and thirty dollars in cash from Heidelberg College. Further, Mary Linda Jeffries received a fifty - dollar scholarship award from Olivet Nazarene College. And finally, eight students received a scholarship amounting to one-fourth tuition each of four years of normal college from Capital University. These students were June Kathleen Chester, joan Denman, Eleanor Marie Dilts, Charles Thomas Fisk, Mary Linda Ieffries, Ursula Ann Lea, Gene Douglas Morin, and Darlene Marie Smith.
