BA KETBALL Two individual scoring marks fell as the NCRU.basketball team comf pleted its 194960 season with a record of 12 wins and 10 defeats. Big Burt Geltzeiler shattered the seasonal scoring mark formerly held by Hesh Cohen as he threw in a total of 445 points. He also made history when he became the first player in the school to score 1,000 points. He concluded his career by running his total to 1,222. Rounding out the starting quintet at the end of the season were Dick Serratelli, Bernie Lauer, Jerry Kasper and Don Mopsik. john McDonnell, 6'4 Freshman, alternated with Mopsik at center. After dropping their first two games to Manhattan and Rutgers of New Brunswick, the Bombers came back to register five' straight triumphs to mark their longest winning streak of the year. Paterson State, Upsala, Arnold College, Bridgeport University and Newark College of Engineering being the victims. After registering their season's high of 79 points against Paterson State, the Newark team played what was probably its finest game of the year when it beat Upsala 60f5 5. With a minute and a half remaining, the Bombers scored nine points to win. On the road in Connecticut NCRU scored two stunning upsets and when they beat NCE at home, they ranked among the best teams in the state. The Rugers winning streak ended in Philadelphia, when the Bombers lost a 666 4 decision to a powerful St. Josephs quintet. Fouls made the diff ference, as the Newark club could only convert on seven out of thirtyfone tries. Weakness from the foul line was apparent all season. At the end of the year the team's average in that department was only .5 33. Later on, the NCRU squad defeated a Montclair State team that was playing without the services of their star center, Al Gifford. The Bombers piled up 77 points and the game never was in doubt. Following this victory the team dropped three straight games. Playing against a strong St. Peter's team at Jersey City, the NCRU team was badly beaten. The 35 point margin at the' end of the game marked the worst defeat of the season. Highly rated Brooklyn College was the next team to stop NCRU. For 16 minutes of the first half the teams battled on even terms with NCRU trail' ing by four points. Then six straight points by the Kingsmen broke the game wide open, There were two bright spots for the Bombers in this game however. Dick Serratelli returned to the form he had displayed earlier in the season against Manhattan and Rutgers. The contest also saw Burt Geltzeiler score his 1,000th point and he was presented thelball in a colorful ceremony at the Brooklyn gym. .
