The Alpha Chapter of New jersey was established in the School of Business Administration in 1942. Eligibility for membership in the Alpha Chapter of New jersey, is restricted to those students standing in the top ten percent of the graduating class. From those eligible for consideration, election is made on the basis of outstand' ing service and high original scholarship. The Annual Initiation Banquet of the Society was addressed this year by Dean G. Rowland Collins, School of Commerce, Accounts, and Finance of New York Uni' versity. Ill BETA KAPPA Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest honor society in American colleges, was founded at the College of William and Mary on December 5, 1776. Election to membership is based primarily on high achievement in scholarship, and the field in which the Society operates is that of the liberal arts and sciences, as distinct from specialized professional or technical fields. Nominations for the election of candidates from the Newark Colleges are made by a member' ship committee of Alpha of New Jersey, the Rutgers Chapter with which we are aiiiliated. The commitf tee is made up of representatives of the sections of the parent chapter, including our own section. The election of seniors takes place soon after the middle of the senior year and may not exceed ten per cent of the class enrollment. The election of juniors occurs shortly after the middle of the junior year and is restricted to a maximum of two per cent of the class enrollment. Alpha of New Jersey dates from February 22, 1869.
