E GLI The English Club was organized in 1936 to foster literary scholarship and to stimulate interest in literature and the allied arts. Each year, members of the Club attend concerts, exhibits, and plays that may be of particular interest to them. The monthly programs for 19494950 included a talk on Beaumarchais by Mr. Jewell, a professorfstudent quiz, read' ings in foreignflanguage literature, a Christmas program of folk dances and group singing. Some of the sessions were devoted to the reading of student manuscripts, followed by piano selections by Nina Lissg attendance at Station WNJR for one of the concerts given by the music staff of the College and the Music Society as partgof their Bach festivalg an address by Frederic Melcher, editor of Publishers' Weekly, H CLUB the annual music program under the direction of Dr. Manri, and the annual business and supper meeting. An-especially successful undertaking is the annual high school poetry reading contest. The Club sponsors this contest and awards a cup to the winning school. Herbert Woodward, Robert Bates GEULIIGY CLUB One of the newest organizations at Newark Colleges is the Geology Club, having been formed in the fall of'this year. The group was started to promote interest in the field of geology, and at the present time consists of all geology majors but it is hoped that next year will find students in other Helds joining the organization. The activities of the club included open meetings featuring movies obtained from the U. S. Department of the Interior and a talk on evolution by Dr. Horace E. Wood 2nd, of the faculty. Regular bifmonthly informal meetings are held in the geology laboratory. Many of the members attended the annual spring Held trip and all attended the Science Society meeting featuring Meredith johnson, N. J.
