AMERICA CEMICAL 0Clll'l'Y A student aliiliate chapter of the parent organization, the American Chemical Society has fostered interest in scientific inquiry, research, the dissemination of knowledge among the members of the Society, the presentation of student papers, and the application of chemistry to our daily life. The Society has planned its activities to aid the members in acquiring necessary prefprofessional experience. Guest speakers were Professor Gilbert Panson, who gave a talk on colloidal electrolytes, Mr. Hammond, of Heydon Chemical Co., who discussed the theory and practice involved in syn- thetic organic chemistry and Professor Carl Olson who spoke to the members on the functions and the adminitrative capaci- ties of the American Chemical Society. A technical film I08 revealed the' problems confronting the chemist in the field of synthetic and natural rubber. u 1 . . . And ,in conclusion ll MTI G UCIETY Representing the Newark Colleges of Rutgers, the Def bating Society participated in over nfty intercollegiate debates. With such schools as Cornell, Boston College, West Point, and Georgetown on their schedule the members have traveled as far south as Maryland and north to the New England States. Although the Society devotes most of its activities to these meets, the members have also engaged in several radio debates against Rutgers of New Brunswick and have presented a demonstration debate for a local high school. As a climax to their activities this year the members par' ticipated in tournaments at Temple University, Rutgers of New Brunswick, and Brooklyn College.
