The long-awaited event is finally here. After four grueling years at Newark Senior High School, the Seniors are finally leaving the hallowed halls behind them and are off to face the real world. This ambitious class began its first year at Newark under the study leadership of three outstanding freshmen. The class enthusiastically participated in the tradition of freshman Slave Day. In the sophomore year of the Class of '85, the leadership was provided by Karla Chandler (President), Kim Lannon (Vice-President), and Kelly Wage (Secretary Treasurer). The activities of the class proved to the rest of the school that this was a class to be watched! Members took an active role in every aspect of life at Newark High. This tradition of excellence continued into the junior year in which Cheryl Palermo, Paul Leone, and Kelly Wage guided the class to an extremely successful fruit sale. Though a small group, the junior class beat the previous class amount of fruit sold. This outstanding effort by the Class of 85 filled the coffers for the Senior Trip. The theme for the Junior Prom was Stairway to Heaven” and was the perfect backdrop for a perfect evening. Stephanie Lagenor was crowned Prom Princess. The hectic pace continued for this energetic class with PSAT's in the beginning of the year and SAT's just around the corner. The Seniors began their final year at NHS with the annual Magazine Drive to earn more money for the Senior Trip. Rick Boerman (President), Paul Leone (Vice-President), and Gina Shipley (Secretary Treasurer) were elected new class officers. The theme of Homecoming was Foreign Countries. As always the Class of '85 showed their social and creative ability in their representation of A Roman Toga Party.” At Homecoming Activities, Roxanne Tack was crowned Homecoming Queen. She was escorted by Jim Thompson. The Senior Class of '85 enjoyed the traditional class trip to Washington, D.C. and the Senior Dinner Dance. In June, the Class of '85 will graduate from good ole NHS” to the future. No matter where their paths may take them, the Class of '85 will always look upon their years at NHS as really great times and treasure all their memories. Best of luck to the class of '85 and may your futures be bright!
