IN THE BEGINNING . . . Four years ago, the Class of 1 9B4 took its first precarious steps into the Newark Senior High School. It was these first few steps that set the tempo of the song that would reveal an optimistic future. Even in the beginning we had radical ideas on what the privileges of the students should be. To set these ideas to music, we elected as our class officers: Randall Sawyer as president; Betsy Cass, vice-president; and Brenda Nielsen, secretary treasurer. To earn money for our class, we sold Christmas ornaments and upheld the tradition of freshmen Slave Day. In our sophomore year, the Class of '8A gradually increased its pace, as we began to develop as a dynamic unit. As our class officers, we had elected Tammy Straubing, Craig DeMeyers, and Cindy Garnsey. At the Homecoming Pep Assembly, we proved that we were the most spirited class by winning the coveted spirit award. Our junior year began successfully under the astute leadership of our class officers Jim Healy, Anthony Valvano, and David Modica. To start our accounts for the senior trip, we held a very profitable fruit sale. Thanks to everyone’s hard work and dedication the 1 983 Junior Prom was a smashing success. The theme New York, New York” lent itself beautifully to a festive evening. John Volpe and Jennifer Kaupp were voted Prom Prince and Princess. Between preparing for our many Regents and our first taste of PSAT's and SAT's we had a very hectic year. Longly awaited, our senior year promised to be the best of all. Our new class officers were Cathleen Shear, Gina Lee, and Teresa Niemiec. On the first day of our last year, the Class of 'BA assembled harmoniously. We went out in full force for the annual Magazine drive to make money for the Senior Trip. The Class of 'BA reigned supreme at Homecoming Festivities, as we made sweeping victories in both the float competition and winning back the spirit award. Susan Street, escorted by David Modica, was chosen Homecoming Queen 'S3. At the present time we are planning our Senior Trip for May 11-1 A. We are anxiously awaiting the 'Senior Dinner Dance in June, the last time we will be together as a class. Finally, June 22 will arrive and the Class of 'BA will graduate from Newark High School with the same vitality that we entered it with. The spirited members of the Class of 'BA are on their way to a bright and hopeful future. As one phase of our life comes to an end, we go on, and bravely begin a new song. We will succeed!! - . . And the Beat; Goes On!! IB
