The Student Government is the “hub” of school activity and is designed to be a “common link” between the student body and the administration. The Student Council or the “upper house” is the head branch. It is comprised of a president, vice president, secretary, and boy and girl representatives, elected after a vigorous campaign. Class presidents are also a member of this branch government. The chief functions of this governmental branch are the sponsoring of all campaigns, selection of paid assemblies, granting charters to new clubs and monitoring of cafeteria lines. The American Field Service, Foster Parents Plan, and Red Cross drives are also under its direction. This year the Council is trying to increase the spirit within the school especially through Freshman orientation meetings. The other branch of government is the Student Congress or the “lower house”, headed by the Vice President of the Council and has a vice president, secretary, and homeroom representatives. The Congress coordinates the work between the houses.
