STUDENT COUNCIL FIRST ROW: iMayberry, Chittenden, Schantz, Stevens. SECOND ROW: Fremouw, Monje, Hardy, Bush. STUDENT GOVERNMENT Student Government is synonymous with happiness, creating an idea or thought and developing it until it is perfected. This is the purpose of the Student Government of Newark Senior High. Its many functions develop within the school a formal, yet happy, atmosphere. The Student Government aids many organizations in the school as well as in the community. This common link consists of president, vice-president, secretary, boy and girl representatives, and class presidents. This form of student leadership takes part in all election campaigns, selects paid assemblies, grants charters to new clubs, and monitors the lunch lines. It also organizes drives for the Red Cross, American Field Service, and Foster Parents’ Plan. The other branch of student government, the Student Congress, is composed of representatives from each homeroom. Under the direction of the Vice-President of the Student Council, the Congress elects a vice-president and secretary. This body serves as an intermediary between the individual students and the Student Council. Upon these people rest the organizational responsibility of the school. Under their leadership it is possible for the school to function smoothly and with maximum efficiency. »!• I '», ,
