STUDENT COUNCIL ROW ONE: Stoddard, Chaffee, Grauer, Stevens. ROW TWO: Bonofede, Bush, Vanderbrook, Asin. STUDENT GOVERNMENT The purposes of the student government ore many. Included among them ore: to provide training in democratic citizenship; to work with the administration and faculty and act as a link between the administration, faculty, and the student body, so to promote the welfare of each student; and maintain the high standards of the school. The first of the two branches that comprise this student government, is the Student Congress, the lower house . It consists of representatives from the homerooms. The vice-president of the Student Council serves os the president of the Congress, while a vice-president and o secretary are elected from the body of representatives. It is this body that acts as on intermediary between the Student Council and the homerooms. The Student Council, or upper house, consists of a president, vice-president, secretary, and boy and girl representatives elected by popular vote in May of the school year preceding their term of office. Also, the presidents of the respective classes are members. Among its many duties are the sponsoring of all campaigns and drives, selecting paid assemblies, granting charters to new clubs, and monitoring the lunch lines. These two groups are vital parts in the machinery needed to keep this school running efficiently and smoothly. 18
