WEIMER Al HISTORY The quality of the Class of ’55 was first discovered when the graduates of the three grade schools became a part of New Junior High. Jane Baumgartner represented our class in the Student Council. During this year musicians were numerous. Seven of us were in the Senior Band. Donna Beader and Pat Klossner received medals for participating in the New York State Music Association. Among the many trips we took the real highlight was our visit to Rochester. Some of us won awards at the end of the year. The pupils who made the most progress in spelling during the year were Shirley Harris, Roger Rawden, Ralph Caruso, and Edward Dixon. Alan Weimer won the progress prize, while Liese Spalteholtz and Pat Klossner won the Social Studies prizes. Liese Spalteholtz and Pete Nash were color guard and standard bearer. Our first year at Newark High School was a great success. Our Eighth grade year was started with as much excitement as our seventh. Our Student Council representative was Liese Spalteholtz. Our homeroom clubs were the greatest I - Miss L’Amoreauz's English Club, The Hicks of 106” and The Nuts and Bolts of 109”. This year Liese Spalteholz and Pete Nash acted in ‘‘January Thaw”, the annual Thespian-Scitamard production. The color guard and standard bearer were Judy Blanchard and Marvin Murdock, both of whom have now left our class. Pete Nash won the Constitution prize on his essay, while Pat Klossner won an award for her work in social studies. Liese Spalteholz and Pete Nash were chosen best citizens this year. Junior High was certainly fun I Soon the first of the big four years was upon us. Freshmen already. Our officers were: President, Roger Rawden; Vice-President, Marlin Siegwalt; Treasurer, Pat Hart; Secretary, Marcia Holmes. One of the most outstanding events this year was the participation of the Freshman boys in varsity sports. When June rolled around, Liese Spalteholz informed her teachers she was leaving early because of a trip to Europe. As our Freshman year drew to a close, we planned to rest up over the summer vacation and to hurry back and make our Sophomore year as successful as this one had been. The Class of 55 had elected, as officers, Liese Spalteholtz, Marie Visser, David Pulver, and Richard DeRue to start off the new year as Sophomores. Ed Gullo and Nancy DeWandel were elected representatives to the Community Center. The Toronto exchange began this year and those who represented our class were Marilyn Schwab and Roger Rawden. Thirty seven Sophomore girls tried out for cheerleading, but only the usual five were able to be members of the squad. Barbara Fishbaugh won the Comstock Award for best all-round student in the Sophomore class. The end of this year and beginning of our Junior year seemed very close. The officers of the Junior class were Dick DeRue, Roger Rawden, Marilyn Schwab, and Jeanette Fenyn. Our first big project of this year was ‘‘The Little Dog Laughed”, our Junior Play, a great success, with Pat Bilotta as the leading lady. Pat Klossner, Marie Visser, Pete Nash, Dick DeRue, and Roger Rawden went to Syracuse to compete for a scholarship at Syracuse University. Dick DeRue represented our class at Albany to see how our government operates there. The social event of this year was our Junior Prom, with the theme ‘‘Neptune’s Garden”. Lou Latin was chosen prom queen, while Pat Hart was the alternate. This year Milt Lansberry and Nancy DeWandel were Toronto exchange students. Marcia Holmes, Liese Spalteholz, Ed Gullo, and Paul Lewis participated in the “Junior Town Meeting of the Air . Their topic was ‘‘Corruption in Government . Marie Visser received the Mason prize. Our Junior year and the one to follow will be the best remembered by all. Here we are, at present, Seniors. We have surpassed the previous classes in the magazine drive. We rolled up a large sum of money for our Washington trip. To be exact, our total was $17,952.05 and Marcia Holmes and Mary Rider were our top salesmen. We have chosen Roger Rawden, Pete Nash, Nancy DeWandel, and Jeanette Fenyn to lead us through this year. As the class of ’55 leaves the halls of Newark High, we look back to memories. Our hope is that each member of the class has as much success in his future life as we have had together.
