158 VARSITY HCDRSE SHCDW The 1954 Varsity Horse Show Team enjoyed a busy schedule of meets, and its seven members, under Bob Boal, team captain, brought back many ribbons and much praise, to the great credit of Major Donald C. Mitchell veteran coach and of NYMA The team consisted of Robert Boal Captain Ralph Fry manager Barron Villela Donald Nazzaro George Forry Donald Bonanno and Thomas Wood The other members of the Varsity Equitatlon Squad gave good competition and saw actlon in a number of the meets The horses for the team were among the best ever used by the Horse Show Team of NYMA and the results were very fine A total of seventy seven ribbons and fifteen trophies were captured 553 ea- TS '! 'a-u-,,,! , 'ibiaifw lien TEAM The biggest event was our own NYMA Horse Show in which members of the Equitation Squad had a chance to compete. About thirty of the awards never left the Academy. At the Lions Club Show on Dr. M. .l. Donahue's Windon Farm the team won twenty-five rib- bons At the Essex Troop Horse Show the Cadets won eighteen more In all the records made and the experience galned forecast future success over brush and bar The Academy IS fortunate in having two good friends of the Horse Show Team nearby in Dr M J Donahue and Sergt Roy LaFlamme The thanks of the whole squad go to Major Mitchell for his tireless efforts ln behalf of the team and of the sport at NYMA and to Capt Bob Boal for his fine qualities of leadership THE SCHEDULE 1954 The Thomas School Show Huntington L l The Boulder Brook Shou Scarsclale N Y Dutchess County Show Mlllbrook N Y West Orange N Cornwall N Essex Troop Show N Y M A Show Lions Club Show New Pall Show Memorzal Day Parade Cornwall New Paltz N Cornwall 'S ff A..
