llntramural Basketball -k -k 'lr HE basketball season of 1935-36 was successful in every I way. The spirit of the Corps in participating in the intramural games was excellent, the friendly rivalry be- tween teams increased the swift action of the games, the skill of the players made these games as interesting as any profes- sional one. The spirit was doubly fine in view of the fact that it was an extremely severe and trying winter with sickness depleting the ranks of the teams. The teams had to work and practice in whatever spare time that could be found. With the free time so limited, the teams showed remarkable skill. The first games of the season were played without much regard for rules, but the excitement that ensued made up for the fouls that were called. As each team played more games, marked improvement could be noticed in their playing. The success of this season was made possible through the able supervision of our director of athletics, Mr. Hade, and the cooperation of our faculty who coached the teams. We are deeply grateful to Mr. I-Iade for the interest he took in the games and for the foresight he showed in making the schedules. He spent much of his time preparing the long schedule of games. The faculty not only coached the teams but refereed the games as well. It was the faculty that whipped our teams into shape and produced not only fine teams, but fine, clean, alert players. The teams were a real credit to them. Basketball was divided into four leagues with four teams in each league. In the first league, the Air Corpsv easily won, winning five games out of six. ln league two, the Gorillas', had a hard battle to overcome the Baboons,', the score of the Hnal game being 19 to 13. The greatest upset took place in the third league. The league was won by the Gangsters,' but only after hard fighting. After losing the first two games, the Gangsters came through to win five successive games. This remarkable comeback was due to the excellent teamwork and the playing of Gentile, Crichfield, and Bell. In league four, were some of the best teams in the Corps. Out of these four teams, the Bucks emerged triumphant. The Corps can well be proud of the excellent showing that it made in the games and in the spirit that it exhibited. t i i Pugr om' fmnilnwl fbzrfj-sv ir
